I’m attempting to set up a brand new PMS on a brand new Nvidia Shield Pro 2019, but it just gets stuck on the “Plex Media Server is starting for the first time, please wait…” screen and doesn’t allow me to progress any further. I’ve tried countless reboots and factory resets on the Shield. what else can I try to get this working?
I am struggling with the very same thing. New Shield and PMS install and set up. I actually had it working for a VERY brief time until the server could not be located any more. After much effort, I tried a factory reset as original poster did. Several factory resets later, still stuck on “…starting for the first time”. Funny part is that prior to each factory reset, I go ahead and completely uninstall both Plex player and Server. After a few of the resets, not all, each still seem to be there. Not sure about that.
I have a Toshiba 4TB external drive attached to the Shield as “Removeable Storage” It does have media files on it. As you know, the Shield puts a “Nvidia Shield” folder in external drive. Additionally, there is an “Android” folder created as well. At any rate. before my factory resets, I delete all folders and files that are not my original media files. Thinking that might help. It does not. Any help would be appreciated for me and original poster. I am pulling my hair out at this new Shield and already regretting trying to replace a PC as a PMS.
@jaypo3 , I think I resolved mine. I found a forum on the Nvidia Shield side that helped. They also suggested going into System Apps > Plex Server, and making sure access to drives and storage is set to all the time. One thing I did before that was clear out the cache on both the player app and server app. Then I restarted. Then I went through the PMS set up again and chose NOT to allow it to create default libraries.
I did the same to fix. I found you have to remember to manually allow permissions before setting up a new Plex server, otherwise it will hang and not work and then brick.
Note that my PMS is still FUBAR but at least it will load the client.
