Nvidia shield: TV playback drops/skips and workaround

Player Version#: Plex for Android 8.1.2

When playing live TV with my 2017 nvidia shield, I often get an error message telling me that the signal is weak. The stream is then choppy or skips frames or has choppy audio. Eventually it stops and asks me to try again.

If I change the quality to have it transcoded, it plays perfectly - regardless of the quality chosen. If I then go back to original quality, it continues to play perfectly.

Is this a known bug - I can provide logs if needed.
