Nvidia SHIELD Update 8.2 breaks aspect ratio in Plex's new player (Old player un-affected)

Just saw another update for Plex, did that, resolution switching issue is not resolved. I do see prettier menus when I go into the movies. however DVD MKVs of 480 content are still squeezed when resolution switching is turned on.

I have just discovered that Live TV/DVR is also affected by this. Fine on HD channels but SD channels appear in a small box in the middle of the screen. Basically it’s not up scaling and resolution switching on or off makes no difference. Well With it off I get an even smaller image in the middle of my 4K TV. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also switching to the older player works for Live TV/DVR and I get full screen video however since the last Plex update watching SD videos from my library now crashes Plex with the old player so now my only way to watch my DVD rips is to switch to VLC player.

Any updates on this? Plexs non exsistent replies are having me concerned

We are aware of this and are tracking it internally :slightly_smiling_face:

Yep I made a post in the subreddit about this and got downvoted to hell - glad this is officially confirmed.

Hi,

I know this has now been confirmed as an issue but is there any idea when a fix may be rolling out. Currently the media I am watching is all affected, meaning I am having to use VLC Player instead which is a bit frustrating. Plus I want to upgrade my other SHIELD to 8.2 but knowing the issue is caused by the update I am having to hold off that.

Thanks,

I don’t have any further information, or an ETA, I’m afraid

Same problem here.
What I find strange is that the OSD (while playing) also has the incorrect aspect ratio…
They play/pause, rewind, fast forward, etc icons are all squashed.

Nvidia Shield TV 2017 16GB: v8.7.2.20952
Plex Media Server: v1.20.2.3402

Any news on this?

As mentioned, using the old Evo fixes the issue.
Also, disabling ā€œResolution Switchingā€ in settings and selecting anything other than ā€œoriginalā€ (during playback) fixes the issue.
Using Plex for Kodi also fixes the issue (but that hasn’t been updated in ages - probably a good thing it seems).

Any Updates?

I have the same issue, any news on an update?

Any updates???

My Plex Player completely stopped working after the latest SHIELD update. I ended up wiping the apps data and re-setting up which then made stuff work as long as I have resolution switching off (this didn’t work before I reset Plex). This is still annoying though as I need resolution switching on so my TV can play 3D movies correctly as it only allows it in 720p or 1080p and so still means faffing around with settings for DVDs and other content.

It’s a Shield issue. The latest Shield 8.2 update broke a lot of things.
Audio dropouts, wifi, resolution, Plex and other apps.

To be honest I have only had issues with Plex. Everything else is working fine for me on my 2 SHIELDS

Interested if there are any official status updates on this being resolved.
It has been 3 months since acknowledged.
Thanks

Nothing else at the moment, I’m afraid

Thank you for the prompt reply!

Yes this issue is still present.

I thought I was crazy - this is my first shield and playing non-HD/4K content really sucks. Please fix this!

Any news on this?

Most of my TV shows render small as a postage stamp so I am stuck with the old player. Very disappointing.
