sorry mate, trying to help you, but you seem locked into 1 scenario. i think not going to get anywhere.
im a network enginner by day, for problems like this you have to rule out all the options
emby is not plex and does not connect to your PMS server. all that says is you may not have a network issue
you have already stated a static IP magically fixed your problem (no reason it should plex wise), and you have the same problem on your apple tv. at this point alarm bells should be ringing and you should be investigating other options besides a āshield issueā
Everything is on Cat6 ethernet. Cables and runs are tested and known good. Because the problem is intermittent and not directly reproducible (stopping the video and immediately restarting it usually works), getting a log unexpectedly in the middle of āalone timeā is not well tolerated by the spouse, and posting a sample video would be more or less pointless.
To be honest, Iām not terribly interested in trying to spend a lot of time trying to solve the problem. Iāve reported what I know, and itās not worth my time to keep repeating that the only difference is the player. Itās irritating, but Iāve already spent more time writing about it than just dealing with it.
No offence but the same thing comes across from your posts.
I should look at network issues.
Is all I ever tried to say despite you suggesting I SHOULD start looking at network issues? 1100 posts over the four threads for a period of 18 months on Android TV and an ever-growing number in the tvOS threads (but only very recently) suggests there is a mainstream problem and not just a few isolated cases.
Fortunately, I already seemed to have fixed it.
Exactly this. However if you have the patience and bearing in mind Plex have been laying this off as an nVidia issue for the past 18 months they really have nowhere to go after claiming that all our issues should have gone since nVidia fixed it (after a year and a half.)
Personally I found the Emby.exe installer a far less tedious solution.
As much as I love UNO life is far too short.
I am having the same experiences. Streaming UHD BD remuxes has been frustrating on the Shield with Plex. A lot of my UHD content appears washed out in Plex on the Shield. But, Emby plays it just fine.
Also, my Roku Plex client plays the content fine until I hit about 95 Mbps.
Plex for Android TV on the Nvidia Shield is just not as good as the Roku client or even Emby. They have a lot of work to do there.
Iāve got the same issue going. At first I thought it was due to a change of the server using a 5400RPM WD drive. So I swapped to a 2TB SSD. I was still getting the too slow error. Iāve since moved all my media back to the original drive a 7200RPM Barracuda drive and the error is still continuing. My Plex Media Server is hardwired via Cat6 to my LAN and my Nvidia Shield is connected to an eero access point via Cat6 as well. Both have been in this configuration since April and just these past 2 weeks the error rate has been out of control.
Iām running:
Nvidia Shield Player Version : 1.16.6.152(smb)
Plex Media Server Version 1.16.6.1592
Also having the too slow warning. I have PMS on a Shield and PMS on a Synology.
MKV created via Makemkv. All mkv titles exhibit the same problem when streaming from ShieldTV via a directed attached USB drive connected to the ShieldTV usb port (very short cable, self powered drive, 7200 rpm).
Second test was to copy the same MKV files onto my Synology, and stream via PMS on the Synology to the same ShieldTV. That works fine. Multiple mkv files played and tested.
Iāve had other issues with the DVR on the ShieldTV when using PMS. Iāve rarely had issues on the Synology PMS streaming to the same ShieldTV.
General conclusion: As a playback device, ShieldTV is working fine with Plex. As a Plex server, it has issues for certain features and content.
Same problem here. Been hoping for a fix for close to two years with no luck.
I have a Synology DS-916+ running my PLEX server and Iām using PLEX Client on my Nvidia Shield. All of my movies and recorded TV shows from my HDHomerun Quattro play perfectly fine on my KODI app on my NVIDIA shield but non of my HDHomrun recorded TV shows play on the PLEX client. I get the notoriously annoying āserver too slowā¦ā error message. Some of my movies also give this error message but not all.
I canāt understand how this has not been resolved yet, same video files on the same server on the same network on the same tv device (NVIDIA Shield) plays fine on the KODI client app but fail on the PLEX app.
Yeah, the Plex team is just so full of it. This has been hitting everyone like the plague since a few years ago and they donāt seem to care to fix it. I donāt know what to do anymore to have them put this under their priority radar. They clearly are not good in terms of support. So bad.
Any news from the PLEX team!!! Every time I watch a tv series, this happens! What the heck is wrong with the app!!! It is totally unusable! I have a Plex client on an LG TV that is located remotely from where my Plex server is and that one plays everything flawlessly! This Nvidia shield plex client is in the same network as the Plex server and is unusable as hell!!!
The thing about this situation that is so frustrating is that I know it is not an issue with the NVIDIA Shield because when PLEX fails to play a show on my NVIDIA Shield I just switch to my KODI app on the same NVIDIA Shield and the show plays without issue. If the NVIDIA Shield is the issue then it has to be a combination issue of the PLEX app on the NVIDIA Shield but it is not solely an NVIDIA Shield issue.
It is such a shame that this problem has existed for so long on a platform that is know to be one of the best, if not the best, media streaming devices around.
Yeah, itās something with the mix of Plex with the Nvidia shield which is why they keep pointing at each other, and their customers suffer. They suck, really! Iāve experienced this issue a few days after I got the lifetime Plex Pass membership. I was so excited to be a Plex Pass member until this stupid issue, when I immediately regret my decision of even getting one.
Does anyone know if the Plex devs are looking into resolving this issue? Are they taking it seriously or just ignoring it? Have the devs responded to anyone, and if so how recently?
If there is no sign that the Plex devs are looking to resolve this bug which is making the app useless, I guess Iāll have to switch to Emby.
Are there any āfixesā that have worked for some users?
Iā surprised that this has been fixed for some. Again, this issue is because of incompatibility issues between Plex and the Shield (both 2017 and 2019 versions). I have a 2017 shield tv and am subscribed to the beta releases of Plex Pass. I have to check the actual version later on my shield.
Arenāt Plex Pass subscribers entitled for support from Plex though?
There doesnāt appear to be any support from Plex. I found this forum whilst looking for support on the Plex website. I wanted to ask them if they were working to resolve this, but rather than offering support the Plex devs just send you to the forum to ask other users about your issue, but in this case that wonāt help, as nobody knows how to fix this bug.
