Just had my first Oculus Quest experience and immediately thought of Plex. I was super bummed to see this not supported. I’m a long time life member of Plexpass and I am starting to wonder what I gained by getting it. Keeping the dream alive, we need Plex in VR!

I have some good news, everyone!
Hopefully this means Plex VR will be able to run on Quest, maybe even with 6dof dual hand tracking if Plex codes that into the Plex app and calls it a day. (Not hard to make it Quest compatible, it’s basically one line of code.)

Hopeful the Go emulation will work seamlessly on for the Quest. I’ve had decent luck side loading other Go/Gear designed apps without issue. I use Skybox on my Quest and accessing SMB shares in the mean time but hey don’t have “multiplayer” viewing which really makes Plex take the cake for VR content consumption.
I understand if its not a high priority right now or even on the planning board but (and please don’t crucify me if i missed it) I’m not even seeing an open Feature Suggestions to be up voted on (just the closed one). I could understand closing a feature request if there is no physical possibility of it happening like a Nintendo Switch port but I’m lost on the reason for closing the Feature Suggestion for it. Past publication through Oculus’s store submission process would seem to indicate the capability is there and this thread is evident that users want the feature (paying Plex Pass users).
So it would seem that the logical thing to do would be to leave the feature suggestion post open until such time its either done or proven impossible. Even if it sits there indefinitely. Unless Plex is no longer listing to customer feed back on future Feature Requests. BigWheel’s final statement on this from the closed Feature Request feels like that’s the statement being made. Saying “This feature suggestion is now closed to give your votes back.” seems kind of closed minded for a Feature Suggestion forum. People gave it their votes for a reason. Even if it won’t happen any time soon let those people vote that that’s what they want, else it kind of destroys the narrative that our feature requests are actually listened to.
Just my 2 cents. Been a plex user for 10 years and lifetimed in 2014. I’m not going anywhere, just trying to voice some thoughts about this.

It’s a free country. I’ll keep asking if I wish to ask. I want Plex for Quest, I am also paying for a subscription.

I just realized, I subscribed to Plex to use it on my Oculus Go. Since I’ve retired my Go, I guess i have no need to continue paying for Plex if they won’t support my Quest. Cancelling my Plex Sub since they want to be snotty about supporting Quest. Thanks for reminding me.

I tried it and I have all sorts of issues with it. On some videos I get audio and no video. On some I get video but the audio isnt down mixed to stereo properly. It really doesnt work right.

How can we not get the app for Quest? Plex is suppose to be the ultimate media system and be developed for it’s users clearly this is not happening anymore.

There must be a backroom deal or something because I understand it is fairly painless to port from Oculus Go to Quest. With Mark Z basically saying this is the future direction of the company, if Plex is not willing to even port the app that is a bad sign for the future.

I am a VR Developer. Do you think it would be a problem if I sell this as an app on the Oculus Store and Steam as a way to view Plex? I can see this being a couple months of development to get it working and performing awesome, just want to make sure I won’t get in trouble for it.

Please please create a Plex app. The Go was garbage battery wise so Plex wasn’t really even worth using on it. Bought the Quest for the higher resolution and better battery life for Plex, but now I’m bummed out. Please make this happen. Even if it’s just to do whatever little things need to be done in order to make the Go app work on the Quest. That can’t be a huge leap.

New member here, but I have had my Quest since it came out in May. I’m using Skybox on the quest to access my Plex server. So far I have only run it on my local network and it sees my computer and shares as well as my plex server. I downloaded some 3D movies today to my plex server and I can see them in full 3D on Skybox.
Now I need to find a way to connect via the internet from another lan

Any news on this? Please get Plex on the Quest, there is no doubt that Quest will be the biggest selling all-in-one headset.

So ridiculous there is STILL no app for the quest… however, I use the free skybox VR player… it can see my public folder on my “WD MyCloud” I just drop my 3D content in there and watch it no problem.
