This might be a self-inflicted wound but here’s what happened.

This morning, I had 67 users on my Plex server.

I clicked ‘View all friends’, found the account I wanted to remove and unfriended them and their account was nuked and total user count dropped to 66.

I went back to ‘View all friends’ and found a 2nd account I wanted to nuke. For reasons…….. I clicked on the 2nd account and un-checked all the libraries they had access to and hit the save button. Then, I planned on going back in and doing what I did for the first account, unfriend them and delete their account. But after removing access to all the libraries and hitting save, their account vanished. However, total user count stayed at 66. I then added them as back a friend and gave them access to a single library. I didn’t send a friend request when I added them back because I want this user gone. Even after adding them back, they still don’t show up anywhere…… probably because I didn’t send a friend request?

Is there some other way to get a true list of all accounts because if that 2nd account was truly gone, my total user count should have dropped to 65 so I think it’s still lurking out there and just hidden from me.

Something else really weird….. a couple of months ago, I upgraded to Debian 13 and tried restoring my database backup and royally screwed up my Plex install so I blew everything away and started fresh. One, particular user doesn’t show up in my friends list but he can still stream from me. How in the world is that possible? Because since this person can still access my media, and doesn’t show up as a friend, I’m not 100% sure the 2 accounts I mentioned above are REALLY gone.

Can you message me the user name of the account(s) you are trying to remove.

PM sent.

And for those playing along at home…. the account who could stream from me but wasn’t showing up in my ‘all friends’ list, he’s back now. No idea what the heck happened as he was MIA for a while but maybe I did something to cause him to pop back in?! Oh well, he’s back.

The two accounts you messaged me are currently neither your “friend” nor do they have any library access.

Good to know, thanks for double checking!

Do you have any idea why my user count is stuck at 66? Once that 2nd account was nuked, I figured it would have dropped to 65.

Friends and library access are two different things. An account can be either or both. I believe you are looking at the count of friends. That account may have only had library access but were not “friends”.

The friends /library access paradigm were different before Discover was introduced so some very old accounts may have some different backend info in the legacy world and could have some unexpected results. If you use any sort of third party tools like Overseer to add users and such, many of those are still using legacy API end points not used in the apps anymore and can behave wacky.

When I switch from ‘Friends’ to ‘Friends with library access’ the number stays the same…. 66. Not sure exactly when Discover was introduced but his account is MAYBE a year old.

And speaking of …. the one friend that I want to keep access for and I said he was missing then found so ignore it….. well, I figured out why he was ‘found’….. but he might actually still be missing.

If I go into Plex and click the wrench > Manage Library access and scroll down, I see him:

cra…… (he’s the account I want to keep and can currently stream from me perfectly fine)

But if I click on ‘View all friends’ and THEN click ‘My Friends’ or 'Friends with library access’, I don’t see him in either of those spots. It goes from cp….. to d…. and my friend ‘cra…’ doesn’t show in this particular spot:

Then It sounds like what i said then he has library access but is not a friend, so “friends with library access” would not show him since that is just a subset of the friends list.

Looking at your account you have a a few more than the 66 “friends” with library access so there are a few others in the manage library access list you won’t find in the friends lists.

Is there any way us folks that run a PMS could get access to this back-end master list data and nuke accounts from there because I think I discovered a bug.

I just now went into the ‘Manage Library Access’ screen and scrolled down one page at a time, copying/pasting the individual user names into Notepad. Once I was done, I went to the ‘Friends with library access’ and started comparing users. I found a user that showed up in the ‘Manage Library Access’ screen that did -not- show up in the ‘Friends with library access’ page. (ty______)

… so I thought ok… I’ll just send them another invite. I clicked ‘Grant Library access’ and added their email address, clicked next and all the current libraries they have access to were already checked and I hit finish (or is it send? )…. after doing that, a message popped up stating basically I wasn’t sharing anything new.

I got out of that screen and when it brought me back to the ‘Manage Library Access’ screen, ty___ was gone.

I closed the browser and went back in and they were back. This is repeatable. Not a major bug, more of a cosmetic one?

So is it safe to say that this screen: (NOT clicking on ‘View all Friends’)

… is the definitive list of users with access to our media?

yes. if they are not friends that is expected. Library Access does not equal friends. someone can be friends+library access, be only friends, or only have library access.

The 'friends with library access" list is people that are both.
