Official channels sticky

At Baa's request I am re-purposing this post to list what we know about Plex Channels and how they work with Plexconnect. I have created a spreadsheet that contains information about the workings of popular channels and will add more into the table as we find out more.

The channels highlighted in red do not work in Plexconnect or iOS but still might be of interest to people. The channels highlighted in yellow are not supported by Plex Inc.

The end goal is to get as many Plex Channels as possible working with Plexconnect, as well as determining which ones will just not work, for whatever reasons.

Channel ninja Sanders1 has suggested that the spreadsheet be made more accessible and expanded, so we have put what will eventually be a more comprehensive version up on Google Docs. I will be maintaining the more focused list in this post, at least until I feel it is no longer useful, as well as contributing to the larger one along with the Plex Channel developers.

Update: A fix for RTMP-based channels, such as CBS or Navi-X, is in the works and is waiting on a framework update for PMS which is coming soon. Note that PMS 9.7.28 also has issues with RTMP-based channels independent of Plexconnect.

Update (Aug 21, 2013): The framework update has been pushed through. Plexconnect  will now recognize RTMP based channels.

Please read this post by Sander1 in the Plex Channel forum discussing current issues with certain popular plugins and the status of channels with current versions of PMS.

WOW ! i'm running to check it ! thanks !

Navi-X need a fix

yep.

where can i get the channels he written please ?

Yes, I don’t use it as I can never figure out how to find anything that I am interested in that actually plays but it is definitely throwing up a trailers is unavailable error, when it did not previous to today. Same with CBC and the food channel but the working channels by far out number the non-working ones now.

so what does work for you ?

can you please give me links to those channels ?

thank you

Just go into Plex Media Server (click on the icon in the dock and a browser interface will load. Go to channels and select the channel directory, browse and load the one’s you want).

There is also a plugin called the Unsupported AppStore bundle (google search it) that you can put in the plugins folder inside the Plex folder (it is in the applications support folder in user/library on a Mac). Restart PMS and it will appear in PMS. Click on it and it will show you more plugins that you can load. Warning: it also contains “adult” channels so don’t be shocked/offended when you see them. You do not have to load them if you are not interested.

I do not know where everything goes on other systems so just do a bit of Internet searching if you need further instructions. There are plenty of sources of info online about channels and Plex. In these very forums for that matter.

thanks !

It's better to install channels from the Channel Directory only. There's a lot of old and broken stuff floating around in the plexinc-plugins repos.

Navi-X need a fix

Please post to the Navi-X thread over here: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/57227-req-navi-x-for-plex and add some details about what's not working. Logs are also valuable for the channel dev.

Hm. And when I did a quick scan, I found a lot of recent changes, many with your coffee cup nearby :-)

So I thought, this must be like the holy grail to Plex plugins!

When you say Colbert and the Daily Show are fully functional, am I now able to play the full episodes, or is it still stopping after the first segment?  I just tried with Colbert and it stopped after the first segment.  I just tried to do a git pull and it says I'm up to date.  Just checking.. thanks.

Sorry, no, it still only plays 10 minutes or so. That fix must be implemented in PMS not Plexconnect I think. I was referring to the fact that yesterday, the full episode menu was not appearing at all in Plexconnect while it was showing in Plex on iOS.

Ah, gotcha.  Thanks for the clarification.
