Offline Android

Anyone???

Well the support for this is STELLAR

Just saw this thread. In your screenshots I see both a 5G and WiFi indicator, but you say this happens when you’re on a weak cellular signal. Can you clarify the situation?

Wow. Really appreciate you awnsering. Thank you. Ok. So the issue was an issue that was present forever up to about 6 months ago, and now is back in recent Beta volumes. The app looks for a connection before it will let you use or even see your synced/downloaded content. So it appears that when you have no signal at all it will got right to your content because it isn’t able to get an online signal. The issue is when you have a really weak signal. Then it looks as if it is getting information from the server. But if the signal is so bad that it takes three minutes to get the data, you can’t touch your synced content until that is done. You are correct that in the screen shot I have 5G, but only two bars which runs like a turtle on AT&T. I had no wifi though. In the instance of the screen shot, it never was able to get all the information from the server so it never gave me access to anything. It also sometimes goes through a similar situation if you switch from the Plex app to another app and then wake the app back up. This is on a Samsung Note 10 Plus. Go look at the Netflix app…your downloaded content takes top priority over everything else. That’s how this app should work.

Right. I was just curious if this is happening for you with a weak WiFi signal, weak cellular, or both. I know this is something that has been looked into. Just wondering if maybe we are missing a scenario.

No sir. The issue is strictly with a week mobile signal.

Also, if you speed scroll to the bottom of a list (server movies, server shows, synced shows, synced movies) when you get to the bottom, everything is in unselectable. You have to slow your scrolling down or it locks you out of selecting a movie or show.

For synced content or regular? How many items are on the page?

For both sync and regular. About 200 movies. Try scrolling by repeatedly flicking the screen hard. When you finally stop at the bottom you won’t be able to open anything without back out of the movie menu and back into it. Same with TV Shows. Thanks for your time.

Two other things, the sync/download button is now gone for easy access in side the submenu for individual movies and shows.

Also, the awesome feature was returned to your server library, when if you go into the main menu of an individual show, the play button showed as resume to go straight to the last marked spot on whatever episode you left off at. This has not made it over to your synced content… not sure if this is a glitch, oversight, or for some reason intentionally not included in the synced content.

Thanks again for the help.

There are changes coming to Sync in a future (soon) update. I’m not sure if they will specifically address your issues but due to these changes, I think it would be best to wait and see before spending too much time digging into your issues. I’ve made notes of these issues so it’s not being forgotten.

Yes sir. I thank you for not leaving my hanging with wonder. Have a safe day.

Incidentally, I’m having a similar problem but I can work around it a little.

My process is (Android)

  1. clear the app from memory

  2. load the app.

  3. While the app is looking for the server click the burger menu, select ā€œDownloads & Sync on deviceā€
(If you were too slow earlier this will come up with ā€œNo items to displayā€, otherwise you should see entries for the folders where you have something synced)

  4. Select the category, it should come up with movies or series, I usually watch series while I’m on the go, so select the series

  5. Navigate to the episode you want to see, and click on it, it will begin searching, and the episode name should come up at the bottom of the screen

  6. before it times out click the title on the bottom of the screen, this should make the episode full screen

  7. The episode starts without controls displayed, and in a paused state, which is usually a black screen where it looks as though it’s crashed or failed. Tap the screen to bring up the controls, press play.

This works for me about 70% of the time while playing offline content.

I wish it worked properly,

I’ll give it a try. It’s annoying because they had fixed this and it has snuck back in with the latest updates. What is amazing, is almost every streaming app that allows downloads has this same issue except Netflix. Hbo max has it, showtime has it, Amazon has it. Everyone making a streaming app with offline/download capability needs to look at what Netflix on is doing, because that is how it is suppose to work. Priority should always be offline content first, then start searching for the servers.

I agree, having to connect for remote playback is terrible UX,

I can kind of see why they would want to check… In case the item has been remotely deleted, but I would argue that trusting the remote viewer by default, instead of distrusting them, would make for much happier customers

Well, the issue has gotten worse. So now, once it starts updating synced content information (artwork, epsidoe descriptions, etc) the synced content no longer is available until it can finish that process. Again, for synced content to work in the manner it is suppose to, synced content needs to take prioroty over server content and internet connection tasks.
