Player Version#: 7.26.0.14578
I’ve had an ongoing issue with offline content (roughly since the Android app got upgraded to the new UI, I believe). Specifically, I’ve got a load of sync’ed content on my phone, but when I navigate to “Downloads & Sync” when in an area without a signal (eg the subway or on an airplane), it says that “This directory appears to be empty”. As soon as I’m back online and go back to Downloads & Sync, I can see the sync’ed content. Latest version of the app on a Pixel 4.
Hi jmsrsstr, seems we have the same problem…
I created that Issue: Regression on "Download and Sync" on Android Mobile Plex Player in Offline mode
We have the same version on Android Mobile app (but not the same version for the server , I am on Synology server).
Please let me know if you find a solution.
Reinstall the app and lose your synced data. That solved it for me.
The problem seems to be a missing certificate that updates do not install or that updates fail to create.
ok I will try, thanks
That did not solve the problem for me I’m afraid.
it solved the problem for me
I’ve been having the same issue for months now, I think its an App bug. Seems like it absolutely needs to get a tiny drop of an internet connection to “recognize there’s internet” and open the offline downloaded files, which is ridiculous.
Hope they fix it sometime soon.
I have been having major issues with the offline capability of the app as well. After the most recent update, I wasn’t even able to get the Android app to open at all. Couldn’t get past the Plex logo screen. Cleared app data and was able to log in again. I set all the music I wanted to sync and let it download. Then on my next flight, tried to launch the app and it was showing no content in my “Downloads & Sync” menu. After getting an internet connection back, I went into “Downloads & Sync” and it looks like all the content is there now. To test I put my phone in airplane mode and now it seems to work. Seems like even after you’ve already sycned the content you want, you still need to open the “Downloads & Sync” while you have a connection so your device can index the data from the server or something.
The offline capability of the app has changed a lot over the past year. We used to have a switch in the menu to toggle offline mode. This was handy for those cases where you’re on plane wifi that doesn’t have internet, so the app won’t spin making you wait for a timeout until you can do anything. To access offline content, the app now forces you to go into the menu, select Downloads & Sync, then the server you’ve synced content from before you can see said content.
The app used to default to showing you only offline content immediately upon detecting no connection. Now it takes 3 clicks to get to it.
Certainly not ideal for someone like me who is playing music primarily offline with my Android device.
Still waiting for someone at Plex to address all the issues with synced content.
I seem to have the same issue. Today I found out that when I was in airplane mode none of my synced music showed up. I was able to play a queue of music that was synced and queued while online, enabling airplane mode luckily didn’t stop the app from playing but I could not navigate to any other music online. This is really fundamental functionality and one of the reasons I’ve bought a lifetime subscription. Can anyone from Plex explain what is going on and what is being done to address this? Android support has been a complete mess the last year!
Same issue here, even after having my sync content indexed etc. If my plex server ever goes down, eg computer turns off randomly, in internet at house goes out, my downloads and sync folder show there’s no content. Even though the content is still saved on my phone it doesn’t pull anything unless it talks to the server making it a joke for “offline content”
This is happening a lot where my phone app is struggling to connect to my server even though my server is online and accessible outside network with a fiber optic line.
Same issue here, it’s really annoying. Especially when driving with my car, spotty cell reception
Same issue here. Plex offline sync is completely broken for me.
Come on Plex, time to fix this!
Same here on iOS. This is a huge problem. I really bought I could finally migrate my music library to Plex from Google Play but without the ability to actually play synced items offline, I’m not really sure what the point of syncing even is.
