My internet was down for a week, so all I had was Plex, but I found out how slow it is when offline, and how much it apparently needs the internet, or at least tries to connect on every action:
- Pressing 3 dots menu on an item doesn’t load, it seems to want to connect to something first. What I had to do instead is click the item, then wait for it to load (if it even did) and then on the individual item the three dot menu loads instantly.
- Clicking any media item is slow, and again is probably trying to connect to the internet for some reason, I’m guessing analytics.
- The web version (when connecting directly to xxxx:32400, was not working at all. It just kept loading the spinner. Only I think initially when my internet went down it had the interface buffered so then it worked kindof, but slow, like the windows player.
- Loading/clicking anything on the standalone player was like russian roulette, sometimes it was quick, but sometimes it timed out and I had to reload the whole player. Once you have an item loaded into view, playing it generally worked normally
So it seems that mostly the interface become unresponsive/perpetually loading until timeout, the server worked fine, minus ofcourse loading remote metadata stuff etc.
I use plex so I have guaranteed local media to pl,ay, but this experience made it very frustrating.
