Offline (No Internet / Cell) / Multiple users with password access / Local Network / WiFi / Phone/Tablet

Sorry if this has been covered in a different topic - I could not find an answer.
The Plex server will be a a location where there is -no- internet or cell reception.
I would like to be able to have several users(1),(2),(3),(4),(5) be able to have their phone/tablet to the IP of the server (192.168.1.xxx:32400/web) and be FORCED to select a User and enter a PIN. At that point - whatever I have set up for that user is available. I have tried setting up a managed user and pin, however when I direct my phone (Connected to the local WiFi, Turned off Mobil Data, cleared my cache and such) - it does take me to the server, however, there is no user selection, no user is signed in and I have full configuration options. Thank you in advance for any help!

This is not possible as (from what I understand) the user must first authenticate (which happens on plex.tv) in order for access settings to be applied… You can have them each with their own personal device that is already setup with the access, and as long as there is no attempted user switch it will retain that access even without an internet connection, however, if you want to switch users, that will not be possible…

Hi JasonNalley,

Wow, How very disappointing! This seems like a very basic function Plex should have.

I -=DO=- appreciate your quick reply and help in this matter!

To make sure I understand a workaround:

  1. Set up x-number of Managed users, ex: U1, U2, U3, U4, U5

  2. Purchase x-number(in this example - 5) devices/tablets that can access Internet and Wifi

  3. Sign in each device when there is internet availability

  4. Take the devices out to the location

  5. Conenct to the the WiFi at the remote location

  6. The user will now be able to view the movies/music associated with that account

  7. IF the user tries to switch users or sign out or anything else… nothing happens other than that user/tablet will NOT be able to re-connect to the Plex Server.

7a) To solve #7, the device must be taken back to an internet available area and log back in

If I allow a Non-Authoritative Login (Ie
Place the IP of each device(tablet) in the Plex server configuration for local network), that device, when it connects - will assume an administrator role.

Most of that is correct I think… But I have a feeling that the network that has the server on it, needs internet access for step 3…

So lets say you do this:

You have a NAS that has the server running on it.

  1. You take that NAS and all the devices to a location with internet
  2. Sign everything in
  3. Move NAS and all other devices to the network where you have no internet (but here is the key: Rename the network to the same as it was in step 1, ie if wifi was ā€˜Steve’s Wifi’ make sure the new location is also named ā€˜Steve’s Wifi’ and make sure the passwords are the same)

Pretty sure that it has to go that way… I could be wrong and you may be able to do what you want using your steps… But if that doesn’t work, you’ll want to do it the way I have outlined…

And yes, you can set any IP’s in a given range to access the plex without authentication (needs to be setup on the server), this does give each of those devices unfettered access though, so any movies, shows, etc that you want hidden, will not be hidden… full access to all libraries will be available to everyone if this service is enabled…

Excellent!!

Ok - thank you! I’ll give it a try and hopefully not have to ask tooooooo many more question

Seriously - Thank you for such a quick replay and expert advice. It may be a few days or so before I can try it out - but I’ll try to send you an update on it.

Thank again for your time and help!

Best Regards,
