Offline Plex sever (on boat) is requiring an "account"

Server Version#: Version 4.30.2 (on synology)
Player Version#: Version 1.18.0.1392

Installed player on a windows PC (to test). It is totally offline (on a boat) with a mini wired network. (one switch). I see no way to connect to the local plex server without having some account anymore. Also there are TVs in state rooms on the boat that needs to be connected to the plex server (locally)… they also don’t have any account. This is all for locally stored videos of guests and content we create. …and some local music…
This used to work in prior versions I believe…

Has this ability to work offline been taken away?

How can I connect a TV (with plex built in) to the local server without an account or internet access?

Please get as technical as you like…

Seems like a money grab from plex… when they have supported both online and offline forever… making them the leader… if they take away half on a bait and switch … I will switch…

For a PC, please try Plex Media Player instead.

Most TVs require connectivity to plex.tv in order to even find the server.
You want a client type which supports “manual servers” (i.e. put the local IP of the server into the preferences of the client).
AFAIK, PMP, Android TV and Apple TV all support manual servers.

I can confirm Roku does too, I just checked.

I am testing with the PC downloaded here: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/
I see no option to add a “preference” for manual servers. This is what I am saying, they took it out??

Use this page to download Plex Media Player

Put it into TV mode (important)
pmp_fullscreen

I uninstalled… then re-installed the provided client link… when I run it… it immediately shows a screen to sign up or sign in … NOTHING else is available… this is what I am saying… without an internet connection and an account you are dead in the water… also the TVs have whatever version built in … no manual way to upgrade… same results in TV or non TV mode
SO… PLEX IS NOW AN ONLINE ONLY SOLUTION??? is that what we are saying?

For the first setup both the server and the clients should have an internet connection.
I recommend to set it up and test functionality with internet available. That way the server and clients can download necessary codecs etc.
Afterwards, you can sign out both server and clients again, after configuring the local server IP in the client’s preferences.

Yea, OK … that seems fair…
Just not working … at all…
I connected to the internet…
I open the local web page… port :32400
Again, it forces me to connect with an account. I created a new account… but then when I get to the page… it does not seem that I am admin… no access to add media etc…

I uninstalled the server and reinstalled a new version (in synology) 1.20.1.3252.
same result… I see no “Admin” area… to add media… or config… the wrench only gets me to “Plex Web - general” Version 4.34.4

Not sure where to go from here. In the past, it would allow me to get to the admin pages? what am I missing?

Why? You already have an account. You rather use that one. Juggling with several accounts makes it much much more difficult.

Separate worlds… MY main account, the one I pay for, is for my home… this setup is for a marina and a boat… I don’t want them connected…
Just trying to get to the point where I can setup local only media, and have TVs login to play them, used to be simple…
Since the plex player is built in to many modern TVs it is / was the easy choice… seems like they are changing that to be more of an online only service… leaving the other local pattern behind…

Problem with “TV” clients is: the platform they are running on doesn’t allow the client to “scan” the local network and finding the server that way. That’s why they must ask plex.tv for the adress of the server. But that isn’t possible without internet.

Additionally, the app you “install” on the TV is sometimes only a “loader”, which is fetching the actual app from the internet when you start it.

I can’t even get the PC version to connect and allow me to configure libraries…
I log in and it will not get “admin” options just a generic plex account with plex “titles”…

There are at least 3 different PC clients available. Which one are you referring to?

If it is the web client, was this web browser used previously to access your other plex account? If so, try the ‘incognito’/‘Privacy’ browser mode.

Only use the local IP address of the server for the first connection. Never use the domain name which might be provided by your Synology NAS.
