Old issue, new random occurence

Someone posted this back in August. Now it’s happening to me, and their resolution from August does not help me.

This is now happening to me, however I do not have a Plex Pass, so I don’t have any Restrictions set. I have a few remote users. They all have the same access. Only one randomly (it’s been fine for a couple years) cannot access the TV Shows library (via Xbox One). Tried a few things, he has uninstalled/reinstalled the Plex app on his Xbox, I have revoked access to this library and re-enabled, I have deleted the user and sent a new invite… No luck at all. ANY Ideas?

I believe the resolution was that the restrictions have to be set since they act more like white lists than black lists…a bit backwards.

I don’t have Plex Pass, so I don’t have access to Sharing Restrictions.

Are you sure that you checked the box to the appropriate library in your share settings? I had a friend have a similar issue she created a share account for her kids but only shared a library with a few items, all R & PG-13 Rated, with her but had the restrictions on content set to PG. I know you’ve probably already ruled that out as you stated you redid the whole thing, but sometimes we overlook simple things.

Also you can set restrictions as a Non Plex-Pass user, you just have less options. Try setting the restriction profile to Teen & see if anything shows up. If it does edit it & set it back to none & see if they stay or go away

He has access to All Libraries, so that’s what’s checked off. Anytime I click the Sharing Restrictions tab, I only get the “get a Plex Pass” message, no options. Should I be looking somewhere else?

I recent got a Plex Pass (Thank Corona for that) but before that I had shares with Restriction Profiles. You have options for Younger Child, Older Child, Teen, None. That’s all you are allowed for free. Unfortunately I cannot tell you were because I can no longer see it, but I assure you it’s there somewhere

It’s not. According to this page, " Setting custom access restrictions when sharing content requires an active Plex Pass subscription for the admin Plex Media Server account", which again I do not have. I’m stumped.

“they can use preset restrictions profiles

My friend already has access as a “regular” user. So I should also add him as a “Managed User”? I don’t really understand that, but I tried it and no restrictions, and logged in as him. I get nothing under TV Shows but “There was an unexpected error loading this library”. I wonder if I just remove him as a user altogether, and he creates a new email address and account, that would work…

Let him log in to https://app.plex.tv with a web browser, on a regular computer.
Does the same issue occur there as well?

He only has his XBox One, and his iPhone. His laptop died a while back and he hasn’t replaced it. But as I said, I have been logged in as him (from my Win10 PC), and yes all the same.

I don’t know what the issue is, but I set him up with a new account under a new email address, EXACT SAME permissions/access, and this new one works. I’m going to guess it’s on my end but some weird software glitch. I really haven’t got a clue.

Could you send me the non-working account’s email address or the plex user name?
(per PM please)

I’ve removed it, so it is no longer a user on my Plex server. But since it’s a personal friend’s personal email address, I wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing it. Why would you need it?

EDIT: He said it’s okay, so I will PM you.

I can get a developer investigating the account. Maybe there was accidentally some restriction set or something.

Okay, sent you a PM. Again, not sure this would matter since there is now a new email address and Plex account. But, I would still love to figure out WHY this happened.

Using a different plex.tv account would be very inconvenient for your friend, because he also has access to another shared server with this old account

He knows. The other guy is a personal friend of both of us and he’s going to add the new Plex account. Not a problem.

Hm, now that the share with the old account has been removed, I’m not sure it can still be debugged.

Glad, you found a solution with the new account.

I see where I was wrong, that option is only available for managed users. My bad. Glad you got it sorted out
