The Plex client on one of our iPads can no longer find to the server.
The Plex app got uninstalled on the iPad by one of the kids. Even though the current version of the app doesn’t run on the iPad (original iPad mini running iOS 9.3.6, the latest version possible), I managed to reinstall a working version of the Plex app (6.7.2). I logged in using my account and can see the user picker and can select the managed user. However, it can not see the server on the local network, and adding the IP address manually in the app doesn’t help either. It just spins for a while and
The server, version 4.68.0, running on Synology DSM 6 (newest version) has been restarted and updated multiple times.
As it was working before the app reinstall I’m wondering if there is something I’ve missed. Any help welcome
There’s been a recent announcement that older platforms are no longer supporting secure communication. Those platforms don’t support the newer root certificate for to sign the certificates used in its communication and apparently none of the vendors was willing to update their outdated / out-of-support platforms.
In your case the dated version of iOS is getting in the way.
You should still be able to connect with both server and client configured to not use secure connections (e.g. on the server: Settings > [Server Name] > Network > Secure connections → Disabled)
Tried disabling secure connections on the server (I see no option in the client settings?), and it still wouldn’t work and I couldn’t access the configuration interface anymore. Turned it back to “preferred” and now it started working. Not sure if I did something else along the way
