Older Model B

I'm trying out 1.35 and the responsiveness is really great, nice work!

I'm still have video load issues:

SD video - XVID, 624 x 352, Audio: MPEG Layer 3, 2 channels, 48000 Hz  - Please wait appears and locks interface

HD video - just returns to menu

Queue videos - full rPi crash

Airplay - no response from Rasplex - no video played, no Please Wait pop up, interface still responsive like nothing happened.

Same here....

none of the HD shows play just says faild to load...

none of the SD or HD movies play...

airplay video crashes just shows a grey screen will respond to back button...

i love the project and am thinking on buying a new one just for rasplex :-)

I didn't see one so I created a Trello card with this issue

Thanks roman. It might be worth tracking the theme music issue as a separate card as well?

Sorry Ben, forgot to check this too. I can't seem to get theme music either but on my Samsung app, I can.

Good idea, added:

FWIW I ordered a 512MB unit and tried it out last night.  Very impressive.  Menu's are much more responsive and I had no issues playing back SD or HD content.

1.36 is out with better 256mb support, anyone try it yet?

RasPlex 0.1.36

HD artwork by default
Speed improvements
iOS Remote fixes
Dramatically improves stability of 256 MB Pis for playback and navigation, unstable during initial caching still
SSH Fixes

if you have noticed a perf improvement on 0.1.35, then you should try 0.1.36 :)

I still have a bunch of tricks in my bag that should keep up the perf improvements :)

Oh It’s definitely faster but got some playback problems still. I left it unattended to check if the caching is ok and will try playback later again.

Yeah two major caching steps happen, one on main menu screen which should take  3-4 minutes at first boot.

Then when you enter media sections (Movies / series) on the first time it will start caching fanarts and such .. it will take a couple minutes as well .. probably like 5 mins.

During that stage, the PI uses a lot the SD and has a very high cpu usage, which will have side effects of the player and other things.

I have just installed 1.36 using the installer, can never seem to update through the updater. I repeated the process I mentioned a few posts back, where I used another server with only a handful of videos.

Huzzah! I can play HD films.. oh wait, it stutters and crashes. Damn, almost. Here is how each video plays:

1 SD movie (avi, mpeg4, mp3) - Plays fine

1 HD 720p movie (mkv, h.264, dts) - Plays but pauses to buffer frequently. Sound stops and starts also. Unresponsive after 10 seconds.

1 HD 1080p movie (mkv, h.264, dts) - Sounds plays but no picture. Just remains on menu then crashes

1 SD Family guy episode (avi, mpeg4, mp3) - Plays fine

1 HD 720p Breaking Bad episode (mkv, ac3 dolby) - Plays but pauses to buffer frequently. Sound stops and starts also. Unresponsive after 10 seconds.

1 HD 1080p youtube rip (mp4, h.264, aac) - Plays fine

1 HD 480p phone recording (mp4, h.264, aac) - Plays but pauses and crashes.

Still seems quite unstable, had a couple of crashes on menu, but most on HD playback. On a positive note, series theme music works now!

EDIT: I left the Breaking Bad episode running for a bit, starts stuttering at 7 seconds in, sound disappears completely, only occasionally returns in few second bursts. Video freezes on a few frames, then after 3-5 minutes plays about 7 more seconds before doing the same. Maybe 256MB of ram isn't good enough for HD :(

I usually test this every couple of releases. Nearly there! :D

1.36 works awesome on the 256mb pi. It's the first version that has worked for me since 1.17 / 1.19 I've only tested smaller tv shows and i'm yet to try a movie.

you might wanna try bleeding 0.1.37 it gets some nice perf improvements still :)

This rate with the releases im going to need a second set RPi... Oh wait, that will be 512mb then and problem solved sorta ;-)

Gonna try 1.37 quick!

Yeah bleeding can pop quite fast especially when working on non trivial issues / fixes like Wifi which needs to be tested among a wide range of devices :)

Just trying out 1.37.  Menus and thumbs are very snappy - nice work on that!

I'm still having issues where I can't play ANY videos.

A couple things happen:

- For some videos, when I hit play the "please wait" appears and I hear a few seconds of audio, but no video.  Audio goes away and Plex hangs

- For other videos, I hit play and nothing happens

Is your omxplayer drastically different than the Raspbmc build?  My 256mb rPi plays everything flawlessly in Raspbmc.
