I’m guessing it’s a change they can make on their end as there’s not been an update for a while?
Or in PMS maybe?
Either way, thank you Plex people.

Ok. Not sure what’s going on but I’ve just opened the Samsung app on my TV and it’s only showing the 10 most recent again. I’ve changed nothing anywhere so I’m at a loss.
I have 76 libraries with the last one being Holiday (4K). Having the list pre-sorted in alphabetical order is very important. I have 5 TVs with 4 different users. That’s roughly 1,520 items I need to move.
If you enable this feature again, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, make sure there is a way to disable this feature.
I have my libraries broken out by category (e.g. Comedy) and subcategory types (e.g. Comedy 3D). I would have liked it if I could house all of the different versions of a single movie together, but that does not seem possible. For instance, I may have a 1080p (HD) version, 2160p (4K), and 3D versions.
I like the fact I can stop watching on one device and start watching again on a different device and it does not matter if I started watching 4K and switched to 3D.
I think your comment about collections was misunderstood. I do you the collections feature to group movies like Star Wars and Home Alone together. This is handy if you want to binge watch those types of movies without creating a playlist. It is also handy when you have movies with different names, such as the Annabelle/Conjuring movies.
I know folks want to make Plex the best product ever, but while you are doing that, please remember there are many generations of users. Some users can adapt easily, but others like more traditional ways. Both are equally valuable. Think of it like, some people only use email while other only use Teams.
If you apply a feature, please create a checkbox or some other method of choice.
I have several hundred TV shows spread over six different genre libraries with franchise collections in each library.
Also, I have an entire library of comic book films broken into 30 different franchise collections. I then have a separate library of other film franchise collections, and then a library of miscellaneous films. Unless we can create sub-categories within libraries that allow collections within collections, putting all films into one library doesn’t work for me.
By your suggestion, Comic Book films would be a collection within Films, but I would then need to somehow create 30 franchise collections within that collection.
Since I’m already using collections to sub-categorize each individual TV and Film library, what kind of solution would there be to organize Library/Genre/Franchise? That requires three levels, and Plex currently only goes two levels deep.
Plus, when the Home Screen initially loads, it shows Recently Added for each library, but once I chose something then exit back out, it’s a mess. Every film library is on one line again, it’s just repeats itself for every library. The TV libraries do the same. It would be nice to at least have the option to opt out of this new feature, whether it works properly or not, but the option to manage the Home Screen is missing on my Samsung.
While we all appreciate the developers continuing to improve and move forward with Plex, it seems like all these layout changes are completely unnecessary, and the time and resources could be better spent on other things (like improving Playlist functionality).
You don’t need to have it within, collections are like labels, you can put more than 1 label on a movie. The only time it would need to be nested is if you are hiding items in a library that are in a collection. I personally have my Movies library not hide collections because I have “Favorite” type collections. But I wouldlike to hide collections like Indiana Jones or The Gods Must Be Crazy, which we didn’t used to be able to do. But now we can. For me it doesn’t change my desire for different libraries, but for your use case it might. You could have the Comic Movies not hide while the Marvel hide, or some such setup. Just thought I’d share. For me the reason a single library with collections wouldn’t work is because collections are a separate choice level. I decide if I want to watch a Holiday Movie, a Cartoon, a regular Movie or an Anime, THEN I make another choice about which to watch. & a major factor is that the cartoons library looks nice with all cartoon posters, a library with a mix would be less visually appealing
I understand that none of those choices are required, but I choose to have a comic book library sub-divided into franchises. I don’t want my comic book collections in the same library next to (for example) a Brady Bunch movie collection.
I want my Law & Order collection with other dramas, not in the same library next to sitcoms or Star Trek series.
I know how to hide collections if I choose, but that doesn’t solve the problem if all TV is in one library, or all film. There are just too many not to separate them by genre, and I still like to have franchise collections within each genre.
Not only that… so we’re forced to dump all the movies or shows into a single folder(s), and all the curated work done on poster, background choice needs to be redone. Not to mention the hard drive meltdown moving all the items, for those with large libraries.
What makes you think you need to move all the items on your hard drive around? Our naming and directory structure recommendations haven’t changed significantly for some time, with the exception that people can now add IMDB/TMDB IDs to the file and folder names if they wish, but they’re not required.
We also have the added task of putting a Collection tag on new movies and TV Series if we are going to separate items by collection rather than library.
Have you seen the photos customers … that’s right, customers; attached to their posts? That is a mess. Plex was supposted to be a way to curate a private digital movie collection. So long as you used the correct naming conventions, you could have a great collection (not the way you use the word). This was a HTPC program.
Plex now seems to want to be a replacement for, or like Netflix, or so other content provider. I don’t want another provider, I want a program as it was for my content, and how I choose to curate that content into foldered libraries as I choose.
Maybe some people like what you’ve done. I guess if you just want to dump content and Plex does all the work, great for them, and you. But at least add a turn off switch for those who just want a HTPC program.
Frank
I’m still not sure what that has to do with moving files around on disk? Nor am I sure what makes you think we are no longer HT software?
I think until you let us know what the master plan is what we’ve seen so far doesn’t make much sense. It’s difficult to see the point of multiple Recently Added rows.
All you’ve told us is thst it will make more sense when we see whats coming. Also hinted that those of us that use multiple libraries of the same type are in a minority and we will have to adjust to the new ways of Plex.
I have been examining how I can combine my libraries and maintain the seperation that I want. In a lot of cases I can do it with collections but this adds a step to every movie / show.
I won’t go much further until I know what Plex’s plans are.
Are you being obtuse?
Explain this picture I attached from above, knowing my home page looks the same.

Do I have to go to a PC, find every conversation from above this one where customers have cited concerns?
I think the two are related because you said that conceptually going forward, one library each for TV and Film would be more in line with upcoming plans. One library per media type doesn’t meet many of our needs, and if we choose not to do that, do you see what a mess it makes of our Home Screens? We at least need to have options to manage it. And did you see the photo I posted?? You’ve basically said less libraries will be more effective, but should our only other option be a messy Home Screen like that?
This reminds me of changes Plex tried to implement a couple years back that were clear opposition to how most people use the service. Understanding the customers with customized libraries, which are arguably your most prominent users, needs to be more of a priority.
As mentioned in my original post
Without going into too much detail since it is in early development, we are also working on some cool features to give server owners more control of the home and recommended library content they see and their shared users see. Some of the small updates we are making, including the split of Recently Added by library (only for pinned sources on home) are to be able to support that type of future functionality. We are working hard to implement some creative solutions to empower server owners to truly curate for both themselves and the users they share with and we feel like this is something we have heard from the community for a long time. We will share more early in 2021 so please stay tuned. As always, thanks everyone for the feedback and we are sorry this slipped through in such an early experimental phase.
This will mean users can curate their own hubs and decide what is shown on the recommended screen or Home Screen from each of their libraries. We generally don’t disclose “master plans”, or much in the way of plans. As stated, we’ll be sharing more in early 2021 (it’s only January 7, so still very early).
Well, that’s obviously a bug in the app for that platform. As the post from that user stated, that only occurs when they select an item, and then back out to the Home Screen. Otherwise, the items are different. I’ve already referred that post to the appropriate internal team for them to investigate the bug. Otherwise, I’m not sure exactly what point you’re trying to make, or why you’re calling me obtuse?
The Samsung app (and probably other smart TV apps) currently does not allow us to manage hubs on the Home Screen.
Regardless, I don’t think it should look like above.
As stated, I’ve already referred this to the appropriate internal team.
I’m not asking you too. Just saying there’s not much sense in me changing my library structure or you defending a UX change until we all know the full extent of the changes to come. I am honestly optimistic. ![]()
I’m sure you can see from some of the scrernshots why some are getting discouraged. Several identical rows has to be a bug.
