So really hating the merging of On Deck and Continue Watching - not least the abysmal English involved. Continuing something is active on something that is already being watched - if I watched one episode of a show once then it really doesn’t want to be anywhere near Continue Watching - that’s as bad as buying a toilet seat from Amazon and suddenly getting recommendations for your new toilet seat collection - although I do want to keep it On Deck just in case I change my mind (better hinges maybe?)
My biggest gripe with the merge - now there’s no way to see how long is left to watch, and that is just a pain when trying to figure out time management etc. The ideas behind this definitely have some merit, but merging those two is just a NO from me - in fact, it’s not even merging, it’s simply deleting the Continue Watching section and renaming the On Deck section - bring it back as the default, because I’d prefer to use Automatic, but that’s just untenable!
Oh, and automatic = no real Continue, and manual = no On Deck… Meh…
With editing library side to disable all the bits that this update added to automatic, so it can keep things to plain and simple, it needs some better UI work - the toggles are too small to easily hit, and there needs to be an easy way to just tick / untick everything (ie, Audiobooks are not music, but as there’s no library type for them it means turning off almost every possible option for them - default-on can be just as bad as default-off in some situations).
Interestingly (for music) there is no “Recent Playlists” choice in my server music library config, just “Library Playlists” - and yet on the home screen it shows in the “Recent” section (when I’ve not updated those in years) - and no way to actually add that section manually, even though all the config says it should be there (and doesn’t even turn up in automatic). I don’t really care about playlists from anything else, but would be nice to have a direct link as the server config UI implies
Is it just me or did the Recently Added row disappear in TV libraries on new versions?
I have 2 test servers that are on 4228. Separate content. In the TV library on each, the Recently Added rows are not there. It is checked under Manage->Libraries->Manage Recommendations->Recently Added TV->Library Recommended.
The Recently Released Episodes row shows up fine. If i add an episode to the library, say one from 2020-05, it shows up in the Recently Released row (which if you ask me is still poorly named), still no Recently Added row.
Just checked, and the newly created library I have configured to use the new TV scanner doesn’t have “Recently Added” but the two older libraries (still using the old agent, mostly) have a Recently Added hub. The new library should be showing some Recently Added series from several years ago. They are only in the new library, so there shouldn’t be any confusion.
Ok, so, i tested by adding a couple of bogus TV libraries with the same content.
I added a library with the legacy agent and “Search: Exclude from global search” set (like my original library). That doesn’t have the RA row in it.
I then added another library with the legacy agent set and “Search: Include in global search” set. That DOES have the RA row.
Went back and edited my original library and set “Search: Include in global search”. Then RA showed up.
Weird. I don’t particularly want my test server libraries to show up in global search, but since my managed users don’t really have access to those libraries I guess it doesn’t matter much.
Not sure if this is a bug or by design.
One problem I’m having with this new “Continue” thing - it pays no attention to the servers time frame for “On Deck” and “Continue Watching”. My OnDeck went back more than a year (plenty of shows that are taking that long to come back). Had something like 50 things in it. Now I’m only seeing about 15 thing in “Continue”, which makes it useless. I did find the original OnDeck over in the “TV” section, but I don’t know where this magic switch to get rid of the merged OnDeck/Continue is. I’ll keep looking
Bad decision in my opinion. Pointless offering multiple libraries if you’re going to refer to them all as the same “Recently Released Movies”, but give them totally different spots on home.
Suggest either as per my previous post or merge multiple “Movie” libraries into the same “Recent Released Movies” on the home screen.
Give it a minute… it was a bit jarring at first but it doesn’t take long to get used to. Now that I’ve had it for a while, I actually prefer less lines.
Which client are you using?
This has been addressed in some clients. Android, Windows and Plex Web are ones that I use.
In Roku it’s been addressed addressed. It Shows Recently Added in Library Name Library Name.
You’ve hit the nail on the head there. Recent added has been addressed, recently released has not. Seems strange to take one approach for one and a different for another?
The Clock is Ticking on that.
Better go Full Auto and start figuring out how you’re gonna to be Victimized by it - 'cause it’s coming and there’s no stopping it.
Manual Management is going away.
My Friends and I are trying to figure out the best way to deal with 20 ‘Continue Deck’ items since the 30 I had set for On Deck seems to be 10 too many.
