On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added

It is possible by choosing to manage the Home screen manually.

I understand that you wish to make the app as user-friendly as possible by adding layers of automation, but PLEASE DO NOT remove the ability to manage the home screen manually for your users who are willing to. THANKS.

Thanks, but it doesn’t work for me.

I need the ā€œCinemaā€ movies not finished and the ā€œTVā€ shows being watched to be clearly separated. Two different processes in my brain.

I was going to ask what the plan is for the individual server Home/Dashboard pages. The ones you get to when you click 'MORE

But after some testing, It looks like this should take the settings for home on the newRecomendations section of the Server admin.
(Then again maybe not)

As it seems distinctly buggy…

On one library, I selected Include in global search and after it had re-scanned the library I got :

Continue Watching
On Deck
Recently Added

But in Recomendations all the boxes for all the libraries are unchecked

If I click away from that server and back to it then they all disappear

If I then go and edit the library and select exclude from global search

I get the library show up

Recently added TV

again all the boxes in Recomendations all the boxes are still unchecked.

Same thing happens, If I click away from that server and back to it then they all disappear.

Finally I have Excluded All libraries from Global Search and unchecked all boxes in the Recomendations yet it still shows one Library

Edit:

I give up… it seems to do all sorts of random stuff that changes each time. I can not even explain…

</sarcasm gosh I am looking forward to them rolling this out to all

Manually Managed Home is going away as of April 22nd, so I’m not counting that, as it will not be possible going forward.

(Sorry if this is duplicate, but I don’t think I could effectively sift through 587 posts to see…)

ā€œContinue Watchingā€ is completely different from ā€œOn Deckā€. I give much higher priority to finishing something I’ve already started than to beginning something new.

If you have to merge them together, then please put all of the CW’s at the beginning of the list, then followed by OD. (And also throw in an option to keep them separate.)

Also (being subjective here), I really like having the background image for CW as opposed to the poster. Often times I blow through the menus too fast to actually get a look at the background - having it as the CW image is a nice way to get some use out of it.

Finally, while I appreciate going for broad appeal, it’s starting to feel more like we’re heading toward a ā€œlowest common denominatorā€ approach. ā€œPeople want more stuff on their screen - shrink and combine!ā€ I don’t. I have a big screen and I like seeing the big backgrounds of the stuff I need to finish. 90+% of the time, that’s one of the buttons I push. I really don’t want to have to search for my CW’s mixed into a list of OD’s.

Thanks.

What?

Why would you remove features of customisation for an app that was built for power users?

So we can have our Plex the way Plex wants it I guess.
There are more options but I’m not sure who they are for.

We have added additional features for customisation that extend beyond what was previously possible, and allow you to have input onto what is shown on the Home Screen of users you share with directly from your server, which was not possible before. There are still more features to be added prior to the removal of manually managed home, which will extend this even further.

Well that a very good question for DaveBinM. I truly don’t understand the shotgun stance on this matter. Ok, I don’t use it much, but that’s just wrong.

Like many others here, I’m not happy that On Deck has been combined with Continue Watching.

A bigger issue for me since the latest update is that my Android/Google TV clients only show 10 items max in Continue Watching on Home screen, which is far too few. Same problem on both Shield and Chromecast with Google TV. Can this be customised or just fixed in a future release.

It does seem like functionality has been removed though. I want to have my television on deck in my home screen. This no longer seems possible. I would love to be wrong though. Why change things no one was complaining about?

Do you mean TV libraries in On Deck / Continue Watching?

No. I want ā€˜On Deck’ to appear on the homescreen and only display the shows I have coming up. Really don’t want to have to remove every movie I partially watched to be able to use the new ā€˜Continue Watching’ the way I’ve always used ā€˜On Deck’.

Well it is still there if I go to the TV library instead of home. But seemingly no way to add it to the home screen. Such great customization.

Apparently ALL my friends really liked the Old On Deck AND liked it at 40, not 10, 'cause each and every one of them have asked:
ā€œWTFā€?..
Much like I’m now asking:
ā€œWTFā€?

I know, you, me and ALL my Friends are being Victimized by Plex’s Blanket Approach to messing up an interface… I’m just not sure what to tell them.

Not sure who those folks are…
All the Folks sending me text messages have a very different opinion…
… as do I…

For what its worth (and I know that is not much) I see about 95% of the new home hub customisation as an improvement. I have never liked the traditional cw and having it combined with od from my perspective is clean and much nicer.

The ability to manage recommendations is extremely useful as I can now control what per library type is on the hub and what is not. I’ll never want things like curated movies or top movies / rated tv so giving me the ability to remove that bloat/clutter is very helpful.

The one issue we have is the limited number of items on the cw list via the home hub (20 web and 10 android client). This breaks the cw for us and makes it unusable so we have reverted to od via the library view for now. This one regression is bad (very bad) but I do know the plex team are looking at this so for now I’ll wait and see in hope and optimism that this will be solved. At least for now we have a fall back so od can continue to work for us.

Some people call that Beta.

Beta for Plex means:
Here’s what you’re gonna get in… 10 minutes.
Buckle Up.

Although I’ve complained pretty consistently about some of the other changes to the home page, this is one that I actually like. I hardly ever have more than 5 or 6 items in On Deck, and Continue Watching was a hub hardly ever seen, 'cause I watched the movie or episode to the end. Just my user case, probably different than most.

Different is fine - usually handled by an ā€˜Option’.. like this one (that even in the hosted app - HAS NO FUNCTION!):

What we, my Friends and I decided on was 35.
Plex Vetoed that in favor of 10.

I’m not surprised - just as irritated as 100% of my Friends and Family are.
