On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added

Yep that’s what Plex think as stable!

Everyone else would call it alpha not even beta! It would be nice if they actually tested stuff before release but sadly don’t think that’ll ever happen!!

This is the worse new feature in a while!! It’s not so much the combined on deck and continue watching it’s the reduction of on deck items! I’m now reduced to opening Plex on my iPad to see where I had got to and then find it in the library!! Thanks Plex another I’ll conceived crap update and makes me think more and more to give Emby a try!!

So I finally figured out my issues, had to do another update from freenas and that cleared up my major issues and gripes with the new update. I still don’t like the combination of the On Deck and Continue Watching, and I hope Plex will give us the option to turn that back on if we wish.

Minor Detail??? On Deck is the only reason I use Plex - it’s the only thing that remembers where I left off in the 20 or 30 series I’m watching…

BTW for susplex - On Deck doesn’t appear to be deleted from the server, just the client - I backed up my android client to the previous version and On Deck is back, so I’ve just told my Shield not to auto-update any more. Clearly can’t trust the Plex team to do the right thing any more.

My family is complaining about this too - I’m frustrated. Plex for a number of years was just working great for me, after initial issues (10 year user!). But think it’s time to give Emby a shot now. I don’t want to play around with messing around with the home screen all the time.

You responded to my post but not sure why.
Dave has said the number of items will be fixed.

That really should have been reported and fixed while in beta though, is that not what it is for?

How long for this update? This has messed up big time for me as my mother watches multiple shows a day, different days of the week and majority are now missing from the “Deck”

I already answered you on Reddit. No need to ping me on two different platforms with the exact same question. I don’t have an exact date for that update, I’m afraid.

Sorry, the reddit post didn’t even post my end, I guess it did.

But either way, that doesn’t sound good at all.

Hi @DaveBinM - Could I please make a suggestion here??

The problem with the number of items on deck not adhering to the server setting has really upset quite a number of people, as well as their users and family members.

Would it not be worth considering the following 2 things???..

  1. Raising this singular issue to a status of Urgent, and handling it as such,
  2. Speaking to others within the Plex org to see if it would be possible to actually get an ETA on the fix - It doesn’t have to be an exact date, but a vague “1 or 2 weeks” would be enough for most.

I say this because it clearly is a really big issue for people, and often when these people are then frustrated by this, to hear that “there is no exact date” just makes things worse from a PR point of view.

It would really go a long way for Plex to recognize the urgency of this and act accordingly. People would really appreciate that… A lot !!

So doing my best to try and fit in where plex will allow me to. I again do not want in progress movies clogging up the continue watching hub (which is what on deck used to be). so i remove those movies from continue watching. they are also removed from the Movies’ “Continue Watching” hub. So if I don’t want movies showing up there I remove them, but then how can I find out what movies are actually in progress? Maybe some hub that shows things in progress? oh wait…

I want a hub that shows the next episode in shows I am currently watching. You had this feature. No one was asking for its removal. It is truly nonsense and I have seen no feedback for this, only that the limit of items shown will be fixed. That will be nice but will still not help my case.

I don’t like this, please seperate on deck from continue watching, and make it so I can see all my on deck shows, not just a few of them! Frustrating.

This issue has already been raised internally, and is being worked on, but we do not typically provide ETAs for things, and I personally am not sure when exactly this work will be completed. I’m trying to be as transparent as I can, and provide you with as much information as I can

Thanks for the reply Dave. I guess I just wanted to point out that there are times when a little something can sometimes really help to smooth things over, especially when something could be considered urgent.

In my experience in IT support for many years, when I make the customer aware that I understand the level of urgency from their perspective, and I act accordingly, I generally get far less grief from them… It’s all about managing expectations, and different times and levels of urgency, sometimes call for a different approach to the “typical” :slightly_smiling_face:

Do you know if there will be an option to revert the change back to when continue watching and on deck were separate? I get that some people might like it, but to force that change kinda sucks. Maybe an opt-in change? I guess I’ll just downgrade until then.

As mentioned here (Universal Continue Watching (experimental feature) - #80 by chrisc), we’re looking at how to best address this desire, but don’t have anything specific to share right now

As of the last update I consider the Home-screen to be completely broken. When I have it on Automatically managed, it only shows up to three items on the “Continue watching” list, if I start watching a new movie or a new series it hides one item and that item reappears, only if I remove one other. What decision is this? As if there is not enough space on the “Continue watching” list to keep all my items visible and let me decide to remove something when I wan’t to.

I for one, liked having my “Continue watching” movies and series separate, so “Continue watching” and “On deck” was a very nice feature for me and I don’t want it to change.

But when I set it on “Manually manage” I cannot have the “Recently added in (Library name)” lists anymore, it merges everything together, I for example have different libraries like, Foreign Movies, Animation movies, Soviet movies, Greek movies, Gypsy movies, Documentary movies e.t.c. and I cannot have them show their recently added items separately, it merges them all together to Recently added Movies, TV, Music.

Does someone know if I can do something to change this and have the Home screen as much closer to like it was before?

The most important thing is that I use “Plex” mostly on my smart TV, and unfortunately there is no option to “Manually manage” the Home Screen there, so we are stuck with whatever the new change will eventually be.

Please bring back the “Continue watching”, “On deck” and “Recently added in (Library name)” lists options on default, and let others decide to “Manually manage” it to show all items merged on “Continue watching”, or better give us the option to have separate “Continue watching Movies”, "Continue Watching Series’ and “Recently added in (Library name)” lists.
Thank you.

on deck is for TV, which is its purpose so you can play the next item in your series. continue watching is if you pause the movie/tv show and walk away and want to come back to it. whoever thought of combining this is an idiot. please put the on deck back on asap. you have now created more work for me and i agree w/ a few posts on here that the last thing i want to do is have to figure out what im watching by searching all over the place for it after a long day of work. if you’re trying to be customizable than do so. that basically means allowing the end user to add/remove whatever they want. and to think i thought we were past basics. i would like to make my own color schemes and themes for my plex server for friends to see, but were here talking about basic features. what is going on lately. the home screen automatic sucks and the manage myself is now becoming harder to use. plex needs to seriously get their act together before they lose people to other alternatives. this isn’t something that should be frustrating people because its such a basic option. smh.

I wanted to just let Plex know you have another Lifetime Plex pass member who is upset over this new change. Maybe you all should work on something useful like being able to sync different plex servers watched feature instead of messing the On Deck up. Very upset!! Please pass this feedback along if you are able. Thanks

Hi,

Sorry, I’m kinda confused on how the structure of this commenting and replying works.

I just want to add my voice for the return of On Deck as an option. I don’t understand why it was taken away instead of just making a new option of combining it with Continue Watching if desired.

Is there correct way to add these requests.?

Is there a way to go to a prior server version where On Desk is still there?
