People could make the same comments about a sidebar with 10 libraries in it, but as I mentioned earlier, this is an interim step as we work towards increasing the level of customisation and control that server owners have
Agree. Personally I have two libraries - TV and Movies and use the search functionality to find what I need.
But I know there are many users out there with libraries broken down by genres- which doesnât suit this change.
All I can recommend is any change to âRecently Addedâ be made optional for the server owner - at least then you get the best of both worlds.
If people are breaking them down by genre, then weâd be keen to understand why theyâre doing that, rather than filtering on the genre in one library, or using a Collection, and see how we can improve that experience
- 31 clicks to Westerns, for instance.
- no letter stack making collection navigation a freekin nightmare.
What else do you need to know?

@DaveBinM nice, an actual consolation with users, thanks. I for one really appreciate the roadmap on this on this feature. Some specific comments as a long time plex user:
- CW is not something we use much. 99.9% of the time when we watch something to completion so CW never shows up.
- OD is used as a sort of programme guide for the TV we watch. We typically have between 25-40 items on the deck depending on the time of the year. Typically whatever is on the far right of the OD is next for us to watch. Iâd imagine lots use OD this way.
- My server only contains the content I add to it. I donât use any online media sources and all are disabled and I also donât use managed users so (thankfully) any changes in those area will have no impact on me. Live TV & DVR also disabled.
- Consolidating CW and OD sounds like a good idea if its done right so I support this change in principle.
- Portrait posters somewhat worry me if you have a large OD, I could be scrolling a long time to find the content I want. Portrait posters also NEED to be at the show level and not episode level if this is the direction plex is going.
- Emby use these portrait types and personally I have never liked it, its just too fussy and uses too much on screen space for my liking but its not a deal breaker for me.
- Remove From CW/OD would be great as its a major shortfall with the current OD design.
- I have only 2 libraries (1 movie and 1 tv) so the problems with recently added is not a big deal for me but can see it being for others.
- I have show curated recommendations disabled as I hate this feature. This is my content and I want control over how its presented to me so anything to give me as an admin of my server the ability to control this is good but needs to support sync between ALL devices at day 1 of roll out.
One other consideration: When this is actually ready for formal beta feedback Iâd assume as part of your dev efforts its behind some gatekeeper/flag so can you make this available to us. Being able to toggle this on/off would be really good and could help control the temperature if a change might be controversial (wish this was done with Roku).
Looking forward to seeing this in 2021 and hopefully will be as good as I picture it in my mind.
I think at this point, you need to acknowledge that your use is not typical (as we have covered before), and what may work for 99% of other users may not suit you. Your collection far exceeds the vast, vast majority of users, and your method of organising media is again, atypical. Continually posting about how many clicks it takes you to get to something is not particularly constructive. Please try to make your comments more constructive, and consider the needs of not just yourself, but many other users as well, with differently sized libraries and use cases.
Thanks for the kind words and considered response!
With regard to the portrait posters, that would be in keeping with how On Deck has historically looked, and will continue to look. It just means that if you have a partially watched episode, it will now just appear in the one hub, and not in both On Deck and Continue Watching, and will maximise the number of items you can see.
I can understand you disabling curated recommendations, however, in future, you would be able to do things like curate your own recommendations, to give you more control over your content, and what you, and users using your server, see.
I would think that is unlikely. It took a little bit of adjustment, but I rather like being able to see more content on screen now
I agree 99.9% of the time. But that .1%, I really like CW.
Perfect, agreed.
If theyâre posters (vs. episode thumbnails) Iâd like them to be at the Season level, myself.
I love this feature so far, and have gotten multiple comments from family about it. It improves discoverability significantly, and
kudos to whoever thought of it. Iâm eager to see it grow how Dave described. The mechanism for admin curated/hi-lited content canât come too soon. ![]()
Funny to me the things that people feel SO strongly about. Unlike some others, I donât much mind when a new feature is enabled automatically. But other things irrationally drive me insane. Vive la diffĂ©rence!
just like it was a few years ago before Plex decided CW and OD were much better split apart - to users kicking and screaming as I recall - and now Plex wants to go back.
As does anyone actually wanting to use Plex as itâs designed - and since in at least a decade Plex has never been able to make actor image searches cross library types - or multiple libraries - having âone eachâ is the only sane play.
as do THOUSANDS OF USERS.
Constructive? I see.
I need to remain a member of this forum so I can at least try to get SOME broken things fixed - so Iâll leave you to discuss things with users who are more representative of Plexâs User Base. Iâm clearly an outlier, a rogue, a user with thousands and thousands of movies and shows with 10s of thousand of episodes who accesses Plex through a streaming device - not Plexweb. I thought that was fairly normal, but⊠guess not.
Sorry for my outburst. It wonât happen again.
Not empty, but perhaps only containing one or two items, resulting in a lot of wasted space
Let me clarify as my brain is not fully awake yet! I was getting portrait and landscape mixed up (I need more coffee). ![]()
As CW uses landscape I misread that the new OD would move to that but I now wonder if âŠ

would look better with the background art per show on the new ODâŠ

What would be horrible IMO would be to use the episode thumbnail which is what got rolled out yesterday and was just nasty ![]()
Letâs keep this on the one topic, please.
However, weâve been listening to user feedback on that screen, and there will be some changes coming next year
I didnât see the unintended release, but I think itâs a good idea. I very rarely have shows or movies stopped half finished, but it does waste a lot of space when it happens. Usually a whole row just for one item.
I can add that I use multiple libraries as well. I have split my library into TV-series, and TV-series (Anime), and similarly for movies, The reason for this being different scanners. I prefer to use AniDB as the source of metadata for anime. As anime does a lot of weird stuff, and TVDB use a different kind of structuring that I donât want to use for anime.
I also split documentaries into a separate library as well.
Weâve looked at that, and decided on posters. There are a lot of awesome posters out there (theposterdb.com, anyone?), but not all shows have great artwork, or theyâre not very distinguishable. Some folks also like having textless artwork for backgrounds, plus it also means you can fit more items on screen.
One of my Friends has a 4 year old son. I want him to be able to go to Animated Movies and Cartoons without having to use filters.
I also prefer to keep old, 70âs - 90âs TV Shows separate.
If we could set up saved filters linked to menu items I may not need the separate libraries. That would be easier that teaching pre-schoolers how to spell âAnimatedâ. ![]()
I would rather have a Favorites where I could pin the Show or Movie that I want to continue watching.
Me too. I have already curated my shows, thatâs why they are there. ![]()
Now that the sort order for Home page recently added section are based on the Libraries pinned, how do I change the default order? Before adding a space like " TV Shows" brought the library to the top of the menu. Now it seems itâs sorting by the Library ID in the database which is putting my âForeign TVâ to the top. Do I need to figure out how to change the library ID in the database so that TV shows is at the top by default?
âŠyou mean like a Watchlist?
Ah, in this sort of circumstance, weâd recommend a managed user
