On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added

The only sane play - until Plex forces their ‘Vision’ on us - then we can work-around it, or get used to it. At that point those will be our only options.

the “bonus” annoyance is trying to explain thru text message or phone call what steps need to be taken to return the home screen to its former self. And yes, you will have to do that on all of the devices you use…

For my Roku and Web app, I did have the work around of manually managing my hubs. However, this week, the manually managed hubs no longer have a On Deck for my libraries.

On Deck does exist if I let Plex automatically manage my hubs, but that brings up the problem of 15 different Recently Added sections due to multiple libraries.

Unfortunately, the Continue Watching doesn’t include any of the series that I have completed the previous episode, making it very tedious to go find the next episode in my series.

I am running Plex Server 1.21.1.3830 and Plex Web App 4.49.2.

A workaround, if you click the Play icon > it will play the next unwatched episode. Also ⋮ Play Next.

Thank you for the suggestion, however, we have a bunch of shows that we go back to watching. Not having the On Deck option means that we have to manually go and select the show instead of having it show up on the home screen.

if “Continue Watching” isn’t showing the next episode (which it shouldn’t, because you haven’t started to watch it yet), and there is no “On Deck,” then at a minimum, you will have to navigate to the library the series is located in before you can click “Play” from the On Deck screen there. So there’s a few extra clicks before you can even get to something that should be available on the home page.

I said it was a workaround not the answer to why you don’t have On Deck.

I have On Deck and Continue Watching when using Manual Home on 4 Roku’s, Shield, Android and web. So, not having these doesn’t seem to be a specific problem with this latest server version.

What is odd is that I had them also, for quite a while. Then Monday they just disappeared.

No updates were performed on my server or on the Roku.

Have you tried going into the Advanced setting for a library and turning “Include in home screen” off/on?

Thanks for the suggestion. This didn’t help. I attempted this on all of my libraries. Here is a screenshot of all the available hubs I have when using the manual hub management. As you can see, there is no option for On Deck, but the Automatic option has the Continue Watching and the On Deck option.

My On Deck disappeared about a month ago. I reported that here: On Deck - Content Unavailable

I don’t know if that has been fixed, but maybe if you try adding the On Deck from one of your libraries to the home screen, it might return. That’s if you have an “On Deck” on the recommended tab of your libraries…

I DO have both on deck and continue watching now, so it might not be the same problem.

@DaveBinM I’ve read the first ~3 days of posts on this thread and skimmed the rest.

Regardless of my opinion of the changes, thank you very much for your continued discourse on the topic.

It’s a welcome change from the relative silence we’ve gotten from Plex over the majority of the last ~5 years.

Thanks for all your efforts.

@leelynds suggestion should work.
I just removed and added On Deck using that method.

THANK YOU!!! I was able to get my on deck back by cleaning up a bunch of the continued watching items. We apparently had too many of them.

Having ‘Recently Added’ for every single library is terrible. Please allow us to merge them like they have been for years.

How do I revert my FireTV 4K devices to back to the default view. I just don’t get why Plex would force their crap on us without first sending us Plex Pass clients an email explaining everything and if we wanted to not use the newer crappier system how to disable it.

This is causing too much hardship for my family who like to keep things simple that I have been considering on going to the competition.

I have look at this thread and don’t see anything on my Plex Server or FireTV app that gives me an advanced option or allows me to remove and re-add the On Deck.

Thanks

There’s a lot of threads regarding the multiple “Recently Added” hubs, and in most cases, a moderator or employee has directed them here for an explanation. I would suggest that @DaveBinM change the title of the thread to reflect the real concern people are seeing, which is not the combining of “On Deck” and “Continue Watching” , but the splitting of RA into several hubs of the same type. Maybe even pin it to the top of the forum (after a name change, so it’s relevant to what people are actually looking for)

I share my library with households. Not individual members of the family. So I have two TV libraries, and two Movie libraries. They are rather un-originally named, “Family TV,” “Family Movies,” “Movies” and “TV Shows.” No filtering required, no collections need to be created, to find the the media you may be interested in. The fact they are named with “Family” puts them first alphabetically on the panel on the left side. Easy for the young ones to navigate to. Even if I were to entertain the idea of creating individual users for the households I share with, that would mean they would have to log in, log out, enter passwords, etc to see the content they might be interested in. I can’t see my six-year old grandkids doing that…

I’ve tried to imagine this possibility. What could I possibly add to a “Recently Added” hub, except shows that are recently added. I’ve come up with nothing, but maybe someone has an example.

I’m sure there are people who like the idea of splitting up the RA by the number of libraries. Make it an option for them to do that. The default, auto-manage setting should be the good old fashioned, simple combined method.

I don’t have any use for Recommended Library items at all. This isn’t Netflix where I may get use out of recommendations based on what I’ve watched. It’s my library. Everything in it is something I put there to begin with.

Oh yes it is… it’s Netflix, Crackle, IMDB-TV, etc.

New Plex doesn’t make it’s Old User Base very happy - that much is certain.
The Old User Base will have to work around it when possible - and then get used to it when necessary - it’s not like we have any choices.
