Hello I am fairly new to Plex and still trying to work several things out. I have several Libraries, Action, Adventure, Comedies Ect. What I would like to know or be able to do it to have one file shared by a few libraries. For example, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Obviously a comedy, but I also have a “Holiday Movie” Library I would like to put it in. or Say, The Sandlot or Angels in the outfield. I have them under “Sports” but would like to have them in the “family” Section too. Any help would be appreciated and if possible please dumb it down as much as you can…
Depending on the underlying OS you should be able to create a symbolic or hard link and place that in the folder structure of the other library.
That being said…
Have you considered combining those libraries and use the built-in filter functionality (e.g. filter by genre). As each movie can have multiple genres you can easily manage them without copies/broken links.
Within the app you can then decide to view your entire library or subsets based on those genres (but also by director, decade, content rating…).
How would that work out with “collections?” like I have all of my MCU movies together in the order of their release or the Star wars movies by Episode number
You can set up plex to automatically create collections for you using TMDB, you can change the sort order for movies, and you can also playlists so that you can watch them in whatever order you want.
