This worked for me as well, thank u so much after the new update plex on my element fire tv was just showing black for all videos only playing audio, disabling this setting made it work again. I’ve been unable to use plex for weeks before finding this post.
I just want to say it’s not just the Element FireTV.
I have a FireTV Cube, a Fire TV Stick 4k, and a Toshiba FireTV. Ever since the newest update, the FireTV Cube and the FireTV stick will show black screens, on video files I know for sure played previously. I haven’t fully tested the Toshiba FireTV yet.
I also noticed that it is now transcoding a lot of videos that played directly previously. Hate when things work fine and then an update comes out with new features :cough:bugs:cough:
Thank you so much! I’ve been trying to find a solution for this for a week. However only mine is Sony Bravia TV. Finally!
Also if you’re app is set to auto update, you will have to go disable the new player every time it updates. Kind of annoying until they figure out what’s causing this.
Hi there, I’m having this problem with Plex app on a minix u9-h (Android 6). The above fix does not seem to have an equivalent on my set up, (tho’ I could well be missing something). Has anyone found a fix for the minix, please?
I was playing fire stick getting ready to watch a movie then it just went to “no signal” internet is connected, remote works,I’ve unplugged it from the tv and power source for about 5 minutes and it still won’t turn on…I’m getting so frustrated please someone help me to get my fire stick to turn on.
The ‘old’ player may work for some.
I was helping another FireTV Victim earlier and we found his 264 level in the Plex App Settings had been changed to 1.0 from ‘something else’ - when we enabled Display Information, using the Old Player and the information told us the video had level 3.2, but our setting was only 1.0 - we changed that setting to 5.0 and all is fine again.
This trick may help some as well, but probably not all.
THanks For the Reply with important source . Its working Dude.
I’m still having this issue with Amazon Element TV. Every few weeks, I assume with an update, the default switches back to New Player which confuses the kids (“I guess this movie has no pictures”) until I switch it back. Any ETR? Or can you at least stop changing the default?
I’d like to bump this so that Plex support might look at this issue. I’ve been turning off the new player for months now, and living with the fact that Plex News doesn’t play anything but audio no matter what.
But it sure would be nifty if this could be perma-fixed!
