Online Quality Sucks!

When watching plex over a browser and not in my local connection, I cannot for the life of can get the bandwidth to increase over 2Mpbs.

I have in my settings to stream 8Mbps or 1080p and it will not stream more than 2Mbps.

How do you fix this?

PS: Where I stream mostly has a 150Mbps connection.

is the server side upload 150Mbps?

Yes I have it set to 150Mbps upload.

That isn’t what he asked.

Yes the server side upload is capable of 150Mpbs

Two things that I can think of. First, remember that the Plex Web setting changes depending on browser. If you have specified that 8Mbit Plex Web limit through a browser on your server, it will not carry over to any other browser (even on the same PC). Second, 2Mbit sounds like the Plex Relay function. Sure you have an established and correctly working Remote connection?

Do not delete cookies from your browsers or else you loose all Plex settings.

So, for every web browser that I use, needs to have it own streaming quality set?

Can clients set this quality if they stream from my server through their web browser?

Why does plex web app show different versions on browsers. IE: local IP access shows a lower version vs going through app.plex.tv

When I tried to set the quality through the web browser during playback it only showed one option and that was 2Mpbs.

Yes. Plex Web is both a Server administrative tool and a Client. The client part and its settings does not carry over to any other browser.

Yes, they can (though, I recommend you not using the Web browser if possible. It is not a very capable client to start with).

Because your local version is dependent on which version is bundled together with that Plex Media Server version you have installed. The online version (hosted by Plex) does not have that requirement, it is not tied to your Plex Media Server version in such way.

As I said, it sounds like as if you are using the Plex Relay function. If you correct your Remote connection so as it is not using Plex Relay, I will assume it will work better for you.

Limitations

When relaying a connection through us, there are limitations for the streaming qualities you can use:

Free users are limited to 1 Mbps maximum for streams
Plex Pass subscribers are limited to** 2 Mbps maximum for streams**

How to get a better experience

Our Relay feature is an awesome way to let you remotely stream your content. However, if you want the very best experience, then you’ll want to ensure that your Plex Media Server can be accessed directly by your apps when away from home. That will let you stream at higher quality and give you a faster connection between the app and server.

Tip!: Successfully enable Remote Access on your server to get the best experience.
