I have two Asus Chromebox machines that I am testing in two different hardware environments. Enviroment 1: Asus Chromebox ->Marantz 7001 -> Panasonic PT-AE2000 projector. Environment 2: Asus Chromebox ->Pioneer Elite SC-61 ->Sharp Aquos
Both machines have tried 'generic' and 'intel' builds of OE + Plex. I have seen no real difference with either build.
Issues
- DTS-HD MA & Dolby TrueHD do not usually play. No matter what combination of options I select in the audio setup the audio will generally not play. I start a movie and the movie plays with no audio most of the time. This requires a soft reboot to get ANY sound out of Plex again, including unrelated 2 channel like music. The most consistency I have achieving lossless sound is to unselect DD receiver, DTS receiver, AAC receiver, DTS-HD receiver and TrueHD receiver. So the only option selected is LPCM receiver. Set speaker output to 7.1 and have a movie that contains only 1 soundtrack (the DTS-MA or TrueHD track). This will play about 90% of the time on DTS-MA and about 50% of the time on TrueHD. If any other options are selected, specifically TrueHD and I play a TrueHD track there is no sound 100% of the time. I have tried all different options on both receivers too. Since I have two separate receivers this is improbable that it is a hardware issue on my side.
- Dark scenes are too dark. In doing a back and forth comparison of dark scenes (e.g. Edge of Tomorrow) between Plex and my aTV with the same exact straight Bluray file the dark scenes (e.g. at 1:40) and about 25% lighter and more watchable on the aTV. I have tried changing the brightness tag guisettings.xml from 50 - 65 and creating an advanced setting.xml with the and setting it to many variables, does not seem to be doing anything.
The audio issue is the bigger issue right now.
