Ever since updating to Plex Movie Agent I no longer get subtitles added automatically.
Trying to fix this, I find the server setting Agents does not have a Plex Movie Selection to configure.
Also, since the change, when matching only Plex Movie is available… The Personal Media Selection is gone!!
That is correct, the new Plex agents (movie and tv) do not support having 3rd party add-ons like the opensubtitle agent. The “search” for subtitle feature from the clients should work, but those are not permanent, but may be useful until there is another solution.
Thanks for the reply.
To bad this got broken.
lol… Especially since I just had to re-add about 1200 movies and lost all the subtitles I did have.
Just a question… Who made the decision that this was ok to break???
And why did personal media agent go away??
BTW. The scan from the client does not work either. If you Scan from the client, it will get the subtitle. But if you turn subtitles off… Plex will lose it. So basically subtitles are broken…
I never realised how bad plex’s subtitle management is until I started trying to provide them for someone who needs them. It would be nice for this to be something they just get sorted as this is a feature that some people truly need, not just a shiny button.
The new agents are based on native code within PMS instead of running through python agents like before. This makes the scanning and matching a lot faster, incase you didn’t notice the greatly improved speeds with these new agents. None of the 3rd party python plugins like the opensubtitle one work with this new code. Plex is investigating how these types of features can be added back but there is nothing to share at this time.
What do you mean drop ALL support for subtitles? I can add subtitles just fine in the client and Plex web for movies and TV shows. I certainly wouldn’t consider this dropped.
Yes you can. But if you turn subtitles off and on they will be gone. Or something like that, I do not exactly the sequence to reproduce the problem, I only know that they were dissappearing.
I actually got fed up with Plex and bit the bullet and installed Sonarr and Bazarr during the weekend. Bazarr does an excellent job downloading subtitles and saving them besides the media files with the correct names. The problem is that Bazarr works only together with Sonarr so I had to set both up. Maybe I will start using Sonarr now that it is working.
Search works. Automatic downloading of subtitles when you add new material does not. So you have to manually search for all subtitles of everything you add.
I like how Plex employees come with these suggestions. It is like they never use their own software. Who wants to change AGAIN the agent, rescan the whole library and then fix the hundreds of movies Plex agents always get wrong? And then someday do it AGAIN once the old Agent is deprecated and fix once more the hundreds of movies Plex gets wrong.
Whats is this old agent where can I find and what it call would be really amazing if we could have auto subtitles back again on plex. I use that really much on my nvidia shield
This is sad; I have plex pass membership and won’t be able to use the modern agent and the ability to automatically download subtitle at the same time.
