Opera TV is now VEWD, and Plex is no longer working!!!

Mine was working OK yesterday evening and today all of a sudden it says vewd has disabled the Plex app… How come?

I cannot access the vewd application list on my 650D (oops something went wrong error) and the Plex application on my 900A is giving a gateway timeout error. I would guess the error is on the vewd side and will likely get sorted out shortly. Another reason to consider having a device where the program is not downloaded every time you want to run it.

Yep, gone again.

And now back up again! Oh the roller coaster ride that this is…
Quite possibly due to changes in their domain name change to vewd.com… Or not paying their electricity bill.

Can launch from opera(vewd) store. But doesn’t launch from icon that is in SEN menu. Opera store version needs quite more clicks to reach :frowning:

Edit: seems back online (Y)

Just checked my Hisense TV and still no Plex on Vewd store :frowning:

Both of my (Sony) TVs are still able to access and run the Plex application. Perhaps the Hisense requires a different build to be submitted by Plex (the company).

Best of luck!

The BDP-S3700 players that were originally the reason I started this thread are both working again.

PLEX is working nicely again on my SONY TV, model KDL-60W850B. Thanks all.

Aaaaand it’s gone again. It was working flawlessly for a few days, and now it says it has been “disabled due to reported issues”…

Those reports were probably from all of us during the period that it was taken down! It was working fine until today… so frustrating.

So I tried opening the Opera (vewd) app last night on my Sony Blu Ray player (I noticed that it updated and plex was no longer a favorite app). Lo and behold, Plex is no longer an available app AT ALL! It has completely disappeared!Opera was a less than ideal way to view my files thru Plex to begin with and now it seems they have pulled it, rendering my DVD player functionality (for streaming purposes) a giant paperweight. (I still don’t understand Sony rationale…I can have plex on my (now archaic) PS3, but not my newer Blu Ray?

Hi folks.

I looked into your reports on a new Sony BDP-3700. Here’s what I’m seeing and what we’ve done so far.

I see the Plex app available after launching the Opera TV Store app from the blu-ray players home screen. I haven’t found a Plex app in the Sony menu system that displays after pressing the + icon on the home screen to add an app.

In the Opera TV Store the Plex application no longer launches correctly. The Opera TV Store asks me if I’d like to open “Internet Browser” and close the Opera TV Store. Selecting either the Yes or No option in the Opera TV Store prompt results in brokeness. This behavior is not correct. The Plex application should be launching directly into a chrome-less browser without any Opera TV Store prompts.

I’ve shared my findings with Opera TV/Vewd. We’re waiting for their feedback and fix.

Please help I have an older model Sony 4K TV and no all of the sudden after the app Store deserve to change everything the Plex app is gone we really need find a Solution please get this resolved as quickly as possible I’ve been a Plex user, for several years and no I don’t have a way to stream my content please get this resolved quickly

The Plex application is still working on my (2016) 650D, but is once again not available on the (2013) 900A (an early 4K). Perhaps people are complaining to VEWD that the application is “not working” instead of saying the application is “not loading” or “not available”. When it does load on my 900A the application works (albeit in a somewhat spotty fashion which caused me to pursue the AppleTV for more consistency - though still with some issues).

I do believe the best solution is to have an external device of some sort to run the application on. This removes the on-again / off-again aspect of a “cloud” based product (where the application is stored externally although it is run locally). From my experience, a small computer running the Plex Media Player program seems to offer the greatest reliability in playing everything.

Best of luck to you.

Hi folks, we’re trying to sort this out with Vewd.

Initially there was a bug in the Vewd configuration which resulted in our app attempting to open in the browser (then subsequently failing). They indicated this was fixed.

Then the monster issue surfaced in which Sony has removed our app from some regions. Specifically US users were mentioned as being affected. European users were initially indicated as okay although that too seems to be changing: http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/293661/plex-disabled-on-sony-opera-store

I mentioned this earlier but would like to mention it again. Chromecast and Roku stick streaming devices are inexpensive and capable. Slightly more expensive are the Roku 3 (and newer) and Apple TV. Both provide a very graceful and stable streaming experience for Plex and plenty of other apps. If you’re frustrated with this situation do consider one of these devices.

In the meantime we’ll keep chatting to understand and resolve the issue.

It’s back for me… again. I’m well aware of Roku and Chromecast, but am not interested in either. Really hoping the PLEX app continues to work as it did for years before Opera became Vewd…

I have a $1k+ Sony KDL-55W850B TV and the Plex feature was a key factor in the buying process and to have someone suggest buying an addon device for a TV that already the function is insulting.

Two weeks ago I got the “Oops!” message also and tried a week later and everything was fine, except the lag when navigating through the menus, starting content or skipping to next media (music or video). It’s like OperaTV Store is acting like a proxy: click the shortcut, launch the remote Plex web app, send command to local server and content appears on screen. This is asinine when the TV app should look at LAN first then WAN. When the Internet goes down, Plex is useless and cannot my Plex server on my LAN. Also, the longer the session usge the more unstable Plex becomes until it freezes (this happened before Plex first disappeared). Now I get something along the lines of: “Plex was remove because complaints of problems with app.”

I have no problems with my mobile devices or Plex Media Player. Navigation is snappy and media streams smoothly, except Media Player does intermittently misidentify my LAN as Indirect Access and I also got an error about not having enough bandwidth to play a 400 MB video on gigabit network. That’ll be a different post.

@plexmizer - Don’t be so insulted. Sony has, in their own minds, competing products to what Plex offers.
They have no promise to anyone to offer Plex.
It was your choice to invest $1k based on a single application that goes to 2 other middlemen decision company boards before Plex, Inc even sees it. If Sony decides to pull it, or Opera/Vewd decides to pull it, and Plex can’t work out getting them approved again, you have a $1k TV that no longer has Plex.
SmartTVs are buyer beware - the smarts often change, as easily seen in this situation. Opera changed. Then Sony changed.

Plex is attempting to work it out, and simply offering a much cheaper alternative while they do, or worst case, if they can’t.
I’m as cynical lately about Plex for many things, but this isn’t one of them. I blame Vewd. I blame Sony.
Plex is simply caught in the cross fire.

While I completely agree with the notion of using what’s available within the set and not spending yet more money for the same functionality, your TV actually doesn’t “already” have that functionality.

Many different kinds of devices have no built-in support for an actual Plex application and this is exactly the case with all of the devices in use by folks in this thread. We all rely on a THIRD PARTY product that makes the Plex app available through THEIR app which is supported on the TV.

I don’t like using add-on devices when I don’t need to. And, I didn’t build out my Plex system until after I had put in two Android TV’s that have native support for the Plex app. On a third TV, I’m using a DVD Player with Opera TV. The functionality is limited, it’s significantly slower, and it’s “clunky” to launch compared to the native app. But, this other TV has no support for apps directly. So, that’s the only way I’m able to access my media on that set.

I noticed that Plex has shown back up on the Vewd on my Hisense TV. I had an issue where it couldn’t find my server , however I fixed that and now it seems to freeze, then a prompt saying “Not Available” in blue a transparent blue box flashes up then plex says it can’t be loaded due to an error and I have to exit.

I would love to get this going…

You should consider creating your own thread and use a descriptive title. More folks will be inclined to read and try to help that way.

Gave up on PLEX working properly on the Hisense TV when I first got it in February of this year. Today I decided to give it another go and installed the app from Opera (VEWD) store. Now its doing the same thing that gavin_ramm@hotmail.com mentions above. Anyone have a cure for this issue. Would be appreciated. Thank you
