Hello!
I love the new optimize media feature, but I don’t want to keep the original file.
For example for the media library which contains only my daughters stuff, which is always and only played from an iPad it would be nice to optimize in original quality and then replace original file instead of keeping original PLUS Plex Version.
Any way to achieve this?
Thank you in advance.
Well, there is and there isn’t. There isn’t an automatic method to do it, though. At least not without script or batch files doing some of the work to move media around. As it sits now, it’s going to require making 2 libraries, one that you put the original into and have a OM job to convert. The other that has the OM version in it and this is then shared to your daughter.
The interim step, that requires a bit of scripting or batch programming is having the OM dumped into a third folder, then once it’s complete, the file is moved to the folder for the second library. Then you can delete the file from the first dummy library. This could be done manually, too. Using the same methods I outlined above.
The OM feature doesn’t make the best conversions. But it does make a fairly good version, especially for viewing on an iPad. I’m not sure I would do the entire library, just to get a lesser quality copy when doing it through other means can produce a much better copy.
