optimized subtitles not showing

i renamed the srt to the file name of the video and still nothing.

thanks for trying.

maybe it will magically work one day? who knows

Refresh Metadata of the episode
(or if that doesn’t work the whole series)

This is just to verify something.
It is already clear that the optimizer makes a mistake by naming the subtitle file wrong.

I had a similar issue: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/260760/subtitles-dont-play-with-optimized-versions#latest

No one could provide a workable solution, so I simply quit using Plex’s optimization feature (real waste of a great feature if you ask me!). I can say that I’m happier with the quality of my encodes as I have much more control doing them myself with ffmpeg (or sometimes handbrake). But it’s definitely more time consuming and I’d likely prefer to have it handled by Plex. I’m going to be watching this thread to see if any workable solution comes to surface.

i refreshed metadata and still nothing.

yeah gospursgo i found that specific post a few times in my searches for answers before i made a post. seems like this is still a problem.

custom encoding my be the way i have to go if i want subtitles or maybe figure out if i can extract the subs out of the first source file and see if that will work instead of the optimize generated SRT. anyone know how to extract subtitles by chance? haha

ok i extracted the original SRT from the source MKV file and that didn’t work either so i give up for now

I’m assuming you have files with embedded SRT subtitle tracks? If so (and if you operate on Mac), I use the EmmGunn software suite (mp4tools, mkvtools, subtools) and it works great. I also will use mkvtoolnix which is a very handy piece of software and is cross platform.

yup! just used mkvtoolnix to get that SRT from the source file.

could you zip the srt file and attach it here? I’d like to analyse it.

sure OttoKerner

optimized srt from plex and the srt ripped from source mkv

Thank you. The subs look quite alright. Nothing wrong in them.
(Although I personally find it nasty that they went with all-capital letters. But that is just an aside.)

Here is another test:
original file: select the subtitle again
then optimize again, but this time use the Mobile preset

yeah the caps are totally gross, i agree. ill try a mobile version later and report back
