Any chance Plex Web could gain an option to not be forced to use side-scrolling for sub-groups?
If you use the “Group Albums by Type” option, Plex Web displays the full, normal albums in a cascading collection of either covers or details, depending on which you choose, but all other classifications are forced to be viewed by side-scrolling.
But, for example, composers like Bear McCreary only release Soundtracks, and that is seen by Plex as a subcategory and so we are forced to side-scroll through his entire output to find what we want.
Or jpop/kpop groups, a lot of whose output is classified as singles & eps.
Could we just have a button alongside the Grid View/Detailed View switch to turn off side-scrolling where we don’t want it?
The Grid/Details View toggle is also only functional on the Albums level. For any artist who doesn’t conform to Musicbrainz/Plex’s notion of “Album is King!” (even though Soundtracks are albums…) gets a sub-optimal navigation experience because…? Well, just “because” I guess.
Why does the “Album” section show Album Name (Highlighted) and Year below the artwork but all other sub-sections show Album Artist Name (Highlighted) and Album Name (subdued)? So artists such as Bear McCreary above don’t show the dates of their albums (because they’re all subsections) but repeats the self-evident Album Artist name over and over. It’s an inconsistent mess…
Also, this don’t appear on an artist such as McCreary with nothing considered an “Album” by musicbrainz (and thus Plex). And while it appears for artists with “Albums”, it is only populated with things considered an “Album” by musicbrainz (and thus plex) and nothing in a subcategory appears, so no quick navigation around anything other than “Albums” and no quick navigation for any artist whose work is categorised differently…
At least allow us to disable it on a per-artists basis (perhaps in Advanced, where we can already choose to diverge from the Libraries default sorting…?)
Plex Web 4.97.3 still offers no alternative option here for non “Album” categories.
This is the sort of thing that feels to me like it was proposed in a design meeting somewhen and everyone went “Oh, that would be cool!” without considering the knock-on effects, both in terms of the ludicrousness of having to scroll horizontally through the near-entirety of your Various Artists (because they’re mainly classified as Compilations, by design) and the fact that none of the “minor categories” function in a manner consistent with the “Album” category. It’s a UX nightmare!
I would like to second this suggestion! I have like, 70 springsteen live albums and its such a pain to have to sidescroll through them instead of viewing them in a grid like regular albums.
Would it be possible to provide an option to display Live Albums on a grid rather than a single line? I have artists who have significant portions of their discographies in the Live Album category (e.g., the Grateful Dead), and it is inconvenient to scroll through a single line of 50+ albums to find a recent release. It would be much easier to find what I am looking for if Live Albums could be displayed in the same way as albums in the main category.
There’s actually already an existing feature suggestion discussing such an option. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes (the thread in question had actually been created in a different category first and therefore still had an auto-close timer linked to it – you might have missed it because of that).
Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
