the option to choose a new location of where to tell plex to save its absurdly huge cache isnt in the general settings (with show advanced option) where did it go? ho do i change it if its not here anymore?
Plex what in the hell. Why? Why is the only option to change where plex stores cache files. Is to go into the registry editor to add a stringvalue. thats a really stupid change

Plex has said that changing that path was causing some problems for some people in some fairly rare cases. Therefore Plex made it hard for everyone. It is what Plex does: They either do not react at all or they overreact.
It is just another way Plex proves that they are less user friendly than the average scorpion.
I believe Plex made that change to make it easier on themselves. They did it so they could keep time free to develop the “Time to change the baby” feature that everybody wants.
It is just another way Plex has made me feel justified in almost completely moving to Emby.
I feel like Plex has made it their mission to make using their program as hard as possible.
I believe that the number of problems created by users trying to use the registry for this simple task will quickly exceed the number that the old easy way produced. But the problems will be the user’s not Plex’s and that is the way they want it.

This has nothing to do with ‘security’.
This is all about Plex REMOVING features and not actually caring about what users need or want
The feature hasn’t been removed. Only the option to do it easily from the UI. It is still possible to move your data. you just have to edit the registry to do it. This is after all an advanced feature that you probably only ever need to set once and then never touch again.
Please note, that only PMS on Windows and Shield had this ability in the UI. On all other platforms, you have to manually edit the configuration file to move the data path.

I opened regedit and made a new string, this is my exact string…
Make sure you set up your new folder with a copy of everything inside Plex Media Server Example: E:/PlexData/Plex Media Server shown here
then make the string is to the PlexData (or what ever you name it) NOT to the Plex Media Server folder… Reboot and you are golden… I removed the media folder out of the appdata before rebooting (to make sure it worked).This topic was automatically closed 90 days after the last reply.
