Organizing collections seriously need improvements

Use case: I create a Collection of 150+ albums. It organizes - I believe - based on the order that they are added. (This is the first problem, since as a use-case that’s not the way humans work).

Then you organize the collection by drag-moving them - thanks for that feature!

However, as soon as you remove or add to the collection - Plex - reorganizes them back to the original organization!

From a usability stand-point, how did that even get past the initial beta?

Its like a make-work project: any changes to the collection renders the collection’s organization useless …and the work involved in developing the drag-move mechanism is a complete waste. You think anyone would reorganize 150+ items a second time? 50 items a third time? What’s the threshold before anyone tries to reorganize a collection again. For me: never.

Still a bit of a newbie - am I missing something?

You can select an order when you edit the Collection:

If it is set it to ‘Release date’ or ‘Alphabetical,’ then you manually move something around, it automatically changes the sort order to ‘Custom.’

That may explain part of the problem, but there’s definitely something wrong with ‘Custom’ mode. I started with a collection sorted by Release date. I manually moved one album to the first position, which resulted in the Collection order changing to “Custom.” When I leave the collection, then come back to it, it isn’t in the same custom order that I left it, but it’s not back to ‘Release date’ either.

OK - thanks for that @beckfield. I appreciate the help - I am still learning.

Its unfortunate that they did not do it via alphabetical on artist rather than album name… stuff is very disorganized this way…

Albums starting with numbers are at the top of course… makes me wonder if the programmers are also users.
