Hy everyone!
I’m using Plex on an iMac, linked via HDMI to a movie amplifier with a 5.1 sound system.
I’m not able to output encoded audio from my movie to the amplifier.
When activating passthrough Dolby/DTS, it works for my Dolby movies, but not DTS-HD MA 5.1 it doesn’t.
Is there something I’m doing wrong?
When using VLC I can activate encoded audio and everything works well.
Many thanks
macOS Core Audio does not support lossless HD Audio bitstreaming for the following Codecs:
Dolby Digital Plus
Dolby TrueHD
Dolby Atmos TrueHD
DTS-HD Express aka LBR
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio
DTS-HD Master Audio
DTS:X Stereo
DTS:X High Resolution Audio
DTS:X Master Audio
What Core Audio supports under macOS for audio bitstreaming to a receiver are:
Dolby Digital
DTS Core Legacy
Hey @Achilles thank you very much for your quick reply, really appreciate the reactivity here!
Clear, and now by unchecking DDplus, DTS-HD codex on Plex, my amplifier can now output DTS, which is great.
So disappointed that Mac can’t output lossless HD. I’ll have to find another support for Plex
You may want to test out DD+ to make sure; it might work. This is a codec that’s sometimes used in content that Apple streams/sell so there’s a decent chance it may work.
Sadly, this is but one of the many reasons why I recommend to people to not use a Mac an an HTPC.
