Server Version#: 1.28.1.6041 (on Synology DSM 7.1-42661 Update 4)
Player Version#: 4.88.1 (Plex Web)
I have moved my Plex installation to a new Synology NAS according to Move an Install to Another System | Plex Support (copied the “Plex Media Server”, all libraries and settings are available in the new server, that’s fine.
But now my own uploaded covers are all gone. The uploaded cover is shown in edit mode under “Cover” but just black, the images are missing. Do I need to copy some cache or an additional directory to the new server?
On DSM 7, “Move install to another system” does not address everything we need to do.
DSM 7 is a very strict environment now.
How did you perform the move?
Did you follow this procedure or simply “drop” the files into “PlexMediaServer” shared folder ?
Hi ChuckPa.
On my new installation, I did the following steps:
Installed the package “PlexMediaServer” from Plex.tv Website (latest version).
When starting Plex for the first time, the shared folder "PlexMediaServer " and directory “PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server” was automatically created.
Then I replaced the contents of this directory with the contents of the old installation.
Additionally I replaced in the file “Preferences.xml” the value for “FriendlyName” with a new name to avoid any duplicates of devices in my Plex account (I got an error without this change).
addendum:
I have found my covers under “PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Metadata/Albums/…”. That means the files (jpeg with extension LOCALMEDIA_…) are there but are not displayed?
Thanks, with the migration instruction from Synology FAQ - Questions, Answers, and a few How-To's - #33 by ChuckPa, it has finally worked.
