I want be able to use HDHomerun with Plex as advertised on you Web pages. It turns out the WHOLE TASK is not as straightforward as you claim. There are no directions to get Nvidia Shield. I had to seek out YouTibe to fix the issue of The Shield seeing the Plex Server. Now that that is working Plex will not allow Remote Access. Says it’s Not Available outside your network. Additionally I paid for Plex Pass and now can’t get into the Live TV DVR portion to connect HDHomerun. 3 strikes. Not a user friendly product and I’m about ready to throw this whole piece of garbage in the trash. Nothing has worked as advertised. NOT ONE THING. I have an iMac as the server that Nvidia now sees as do my phones and tablets. Any CLUES?
people in the community will be happy to help if you slice your issues.
it’s a little hard to read the specific issues in this post.
do I read this correctly:
- you have a Plex Media Server installed on your iMac and successfully connected the Plex Client on your Nvidea Shield to that server
- you do have a HDHomerun connected to your iMac but are not able to activate it within Plex?
- you have issues to access your Plex server remotely?
Have you been checking the support articles related to DVR and Remote Access?
From what I can tell there’s a number of restrictions to those components for which Plex depends on e.g. your router supporting certain connection models – some routers provide those out-of-the-box without requiring further configuration, for others you need to activate it or to manually establish a port-forward instead. As for the DVR… is your device on their list of supported devices?
