Panasonic VIERA TC-P50ST60 + DS218+ with Plex

TV: Panasonic VIERA TC-P50ST60
NAS: Synology DS218+
Plex: 1.12.2.4929

I have Plex installed on the NAS, and am accessing it on the Panasonic via DLNA. However, there are two things I’d like to fix:

  1. I’m unable to use the Plex GUI, and am instead confined to the text-based DLNA view
  2. Several video/audio encoding formats do not work

For item 1, I’m unsure how to go about fixing this, short of replacing either my TV or buying a separate hardware module.

For item 2, I followed the instructions found at https://markexpeditions.blogspot.com/2017/10/setting-up-plex-to-work-with-panasonic.html , but am still experiencing playback issues with several files.

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated!

If you’re accessing PMS through the DLNA interface, you have to live with the limitations of DLNA.
The UI and codecs are two of those limitations.

Your choices are to modify your media, per some other site’s recommendations, to work with your television in DLNA mode

I would normally recommend installing the Plex app, but your television is too old for the Plex app.

Your choices are to use some HDMI device (Apple TV / Roku / etc) which is Plex-app compatible
