Partitioned drive issue. Advice needed

I have a partitioned drive and other partitions have a tree. My Video partition (which has my Movies and TV Shows) does not have a tree. What do I need to do? See image

Not sure what’s the issue here. Any advice? This is the last piece to getting going with Plex.

Does each partition have the same permissions?

I believe so. I’m not sure - where do I verify the permissions? Is this within Plex or my Synology?

This other drive you have, Did you plug it into one of the drive bays or is it an external USB -or- are you referring to other Shared Folders on your “Volume1” ?

Hi, I have two bays in my NAS, one HDD is a backup. So I only really have one drive with four partitions. I don’t recall changing permissions on any of these, so they all should remain the same.

I believe my one HDD in my NAS may be called Volume 1.

Is your Synology on DSM 6 or DSM 7?

All drives in Synology drive bays are 3 partitions when the operating system (DSM) is installed on them.

Your “Volume 1” (which you see as /volume1 in Plex) is partitioned as:
P1 = OS
P2 = Swap space
P3 = User data (RAID volume)

This is the same for DSM 6 and DSM 7

Are you comfortable with the Linux command line? If not, there are other ways through the Synology GUI. We will be able to see what DSM sees.

My partitions are based on file types. 1 partition is documents/person, second is music, third is photos, fourth is video.

  2. Runs as user root

  3. Emails you the output

As I read this:

  1. /dev/mtdXXXXX are the Synology internal assistant device (firmware)
  2. /dev/md0 - partition 1 - 2550 MB (the OS)
  3. /dev/md1 - partition 2 - 2147 MB (swap space)
  4. /dev/md2 - partition 3 - 5996 GB (Volume 1)

Both your drives are in use. If you created a SHR partition arrangement then this is normal. 1 drive is the storage while the other provides the parity .

As I walk through to add the “Animated” shared folder which is on Volume 1,

  1. Initial opening

  2. Go to /volume1, Observe shared folders of /volume1.

  3. Scoll down and find Animated (Click it)

  4. Back at the top, I now see /volume1/Animated (top) and the contents of that shared folder in the right panel.

  5. I now click ADD and that’s it.

On my end it does not allow for that. I can go to Volume 1/video and that is it. And still, it does not produce any media results within Plex.

Which version of DSM are you using?

How long ago was the volume created? DSM 4? DSM 5? DSM 6?

Latest version DSM 6. Volume was created when I purchased the server, probably two years ago.

The question comes down to DSM 5 or not. It has been learned that DSM 5-created volumes are not fully DSM 7 compatible.

I had to convert a volume last week to fix the problem for one user.

While it can be done again, it’s important to know where the volume’s life began.

I would like you to do the following, which takes an inventory, so we can figure out how to proceed.

  1. Create a scheduled task - user script
  2. The task runs as user root
  3. Have it email you the results.
  4. For the task settings

ls -la /volume*

It will create a listing of all the storage volumes.

Before sharing that output, please review it and delete the names of any shared folders you want to keep private.

What I’m looking for are whether the ACLs are damaged or not; that’s all.

I see what’s happening.

I would like you to create a new shared folder. “Media” or something like that so you know it’s your media files. As you create it, give Plex access to the shared folder

Next, I’d like you to take your media files from video and move them to Media.

After everything is moved, Now setup your library sections. /volume1/Media/xxxxx as you would have if they were under /volume1/video.

If you wish to test this first, COPY a few over and confirm Plex can start seeing them
