Now i know some plex ninja will come and say make new plex account for friends and share your library.
But no man its not possible because then plex will ask my friend to unlock android app, unlock iOS app Bla Bla, so it’s better to have this rather than doing all those chores. Because I already have two plex accounts for this thing.
Mind sharing what exactly you’re trying to achieve with this suggestion?
Managed users aren’t designed to be used for sharing media and the one-time app activations with friends. I suppose you understand that Plex is a business and have to pay their developers (and infra)… asking for options to bypass that isn’t necessarily going to help — so yes… why not have your friends pay for their own app activation?
As for the technical aspect of your suggestion… I take it nothing has changed since you asked for passwords for managed users 3 weeks ago?
yes , exactly pay their developers to do what ? I am sure that you dont get a salary for plex employees from plex pass or even if you get its not much as compared to what plex gets from investment. Most of the updates have not been community oriented. Otherwise, if developers are getting salary for development of features, then most of the feature suggestions in the forum would have been closed till now which doesn’t even need much time to be implemented. But again, as you said Plex is business.
The scenario is I have one plex account for my personal use, I want it to be used on my living room TV and so i just create managed user and it to be there and enable automatic sign in. But what i am watching on my laptop sometimes i want to watch on my living room TV so for my account i need a complex password or at least 6-digit pin. So that my brother doesn’t guess it and gets access to things which he shouldn’t. Now there are many combinations possible for 4-digit pins but why not add an extra layer of security?
These things are already there on emby and jellyfin and no doubt how old these threads (2-3 years) are and by the time plex implements it emby and jellyfin would already surpass plex in every aspect. Jellyfin won’t even take that much time.
I strongly disagree with your conclusion about Plex not caring. Also, despite all the need to vent… there’s no need to use every feature suggestion you’re commenting on for Plex bashing.
As for the suggestion itself: let’s go with the existing suggestion to expand the PIN/password for managed users linked in your original suggestion (from what I’ve seen you already commented there too).
