I understand that implementing parental controls is probably for a narrow scope of your audience, but I thought I'd just add my request for them to the list...having 5 kids myself. You guys are doing great work with Plex and I would be very appreciative if parental controls made it into the code base.
I have 4 kids and I would also really like to see parental controls added. This is something Apple TV already has. If the rating of the movie selected is above a user (admin) specified level, the viewer is prompted for a password. If they can't enter the correct password, they can't watch the movie. Dev, I understand that you may be envisioning something more robust (and complicated) with multiple control levels, etc and maybe this is what has delayed this feature but the simple method I have described would take care of about 90% of the need. Most of us just want a way to keep our kids out of the R movies without having to restrict ourselves. Fellow users, please feel free to add to this.
Plex is the BEST product out there, bar NONE, and I would not trade it for the world. Adding this one feature would make it a complete world-beater. Keep up the good work devs!
Parental controls are important to me as well. Please consider adding such options in a future release.
I too would love to see parental controls - I'm on the verge of letting my daughter have the PS3 to play her old games on and to watch movies but I can seem to lock it down - not even with separate folders or the recent lock channel.
Please bring this to the top of the to do list :)

Thanks for your suggestion. "Lock for Plex" (I'll refer to it as LFP) is close but not quite what we are asking for here. LFP locks a SECTION, not content by specific rating. I really don't want to have to reorganize my entire library so that I can hide titles away in specific sections. If I were one of those trying to hide away a collection of porn (or the like) I suppose this method would work just fine, being akin to putting all of the dvds in a cabinet and lcoking it. My needs (and I think many others) are a bit different. I have a collection of movies that can (like most do) that can be filtered by rating, genre, actor, etc. I want to keep my kids from accidentally (or on purpose) stumbling into movies that they are not ready for. I don't have all of the R rated movies in on section, there are sprinkled throughout the movies library. Again, the solution is very simple. We just need a system setting that requires a password to view titles with a rating over a certain level. AppleTV does it and if they can do it, I KNOW the Plex developers can do it!

Didn't for me - link worked at first, locked the channels but still worked on the PS3 which is what I wanted it for, then afterword the link generator couldn't find my server and the channels remained locked - re-install didn't work, eventually had to roll back my PC to an earlier restore point.
Hope it works better for others.
I would really like to see this feature.
Perhaps one of the developers could post a responce that will enlighten us regarding the challenges they face in implimenting a solution.
Parental controls would also be of great value to me. I have a 5 and 7 year old who are glued to Plex via their tablets.
I love Plex, it has allowed me to reclaim the living room TV from the Disney channel :).

Add me to the list of people who can’t believe that this basic feature is missing.
I realize that most of your developers are probably young and haven’t even thought of something like this being needed, but this is a very big feature for any parent. And parents make up a much larger percentage of those with money for PlexPass than the general free-plex using population. Features that attract people with money should be a priority for your business.
Please put me with on this list !!

Setup for each folder option to USE PIN#?

+1 for parental controls. I can't expect my young kids to sign in and out of Plex accounts and I still want the ability to sync offline. I need a PIN style lock or something based on the library.
