The title says it all.
You’ll find a number of (very) old feature suggestions on this topic. Plex‘ way to deal with such limitations is to create different accounts (e.g. managed users within a „Plex Home“ with whom you share certain libraries, restrict content by certain criteria).
well this is disappointing lol
How so?
that the only way you can “password protect” a particular library is by putting it on a whole separate account
Still not getting your point… do you want to password protect libraries from yourself?
Managed users are part of your own account. Their main purpose is to allow (1) to distinguish what content is made available to e.g. certain family members and (2) to keep their watch history separate so you don’t mix up if different persons in your home watched a movie up to a different level (e.g. your wife/husband is already through it while you only saw half of it)
So I don’t have managed accounts. I use only my own account but my account is set up on various TVs, desktop, laptop, etc. I want the content to be available, say, if I have guests, etc. but I don’t want ALL content to be a available. So I’d like to put a pass on THAT particular library to prevent access.
Check out the guest option in Plex Home
Thanks so much!
Problem with Plex Home is that it make the Mobile App completely useless requiring you to constantly login all the time. Simple solution - add a password to the library.
You can configure your mobile device to automatically sign-in with a specific user. This can make sense if the device is used by one user. If you’re handing your phone to your kids who have their own managed users… yes, then you’ll need to enter your/their Pin when you open the app.
+1 I don’t want to fool with multiple accounts. I want a pin code on a particular library. I don’t want to have to enter a password to enter my account and there’s nothing to stop my children from simply clicking on my ‘account’
I want to be able to keep my kids from watching certain rated movies without needing a bunch of accounts.
I would like either
Password protect the entire library or you need a PIN number to watch content above a certain rating.
That way if my little brats try to watch something they are not supposed to it will ask for a 4 digit PIN number and I can use 1 auto login account.
I like the idea of having to enter a PIN. When creating a folder and then adding it to my Plex Library an option to PIN protect would be great. Everyone can see the folder on the left side in Plex but if they try to access it asks for a PIN. We have 2 Android TVs, 2 Roku TVs, 3 Roku boxes (the android TV we have suck with slow interface) and several tablets and phones all have my Plex account if they should ever want to use it.
I would like it better than everyone having an account and then me adding them to what library they can access.
