Password Reset » Claim Successful » Server not displayed in settings

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6106-7000 running on Synology DSM 7.1-42661 Update 4
Player Version#:

Like many here, I did the password reset this week, and ran into issues. I have read and tried literally every recommendation and trick in this forum with no luck, as well as those on r/plex.

My issue is that the claim seems successful, but the server does not show up in Plex UI.

  • Completely uninstalled PMS
  • Cleared out all authorized devices
  • Downloaded and installed PMS from Plex (not beta)
  • Ran installer with New option. Got a claim code, received successful message with my username.
  • Opened Plex from the NAS from my macbook. http://IP.OF.SERVER:32400/web
  • Plex opens fine on the IP, no errors or lack of soup.
  • Visit settings. There is no server listed at all.

Like a few other people, I unfortunately did “remove” the server from the Plex settings when I first encountered the issue when it was showing the error state (UI said it would re-add when restarted). Since then it has not shown up again.

A few things I tried:

  • Deleting all the Preferences.xml fields and running the claim command via SSH (same success as before, same result)
  • Running the recent bash script that does the claim for you. Same success as before. Same result.
  • Visiting from another browser, device, and in incognito
  • Installing without the claim (receive the classic “Unauthorized” message when opening on the server’s IP) Claiming after this solves that issue, but same end result - no server.
  • Logging out EVERYWHERE
  • Probably some more random stuff people mentioned in posts.

I am basically down to completely wiping my NAS to get this working. Other than a backup device, its basically a Plex machine :frowning:

Any other ideas? Logs attached (since removed in case of PII).

I see what happened.

Both your server and your computer have WAN IP addresses.

Aug 26, 2022 10:34:09.651 [0x7fee85c501c0] DEBUG - Detected primary interface: 204.1xx.xxx.xxx

Your computer:

Aug 26, 2022 10:34:13.130 [0x7fee81a7db00] DEBUG - Completed: [2xx.1xx.xxx.xxx:55470] 200 GET

Are these addresses your LAN addresses ?

Did you assign that LAN subnet in your modem / router ?

Looking further into your account, it appears you’re in Alberta ?

@ChuckPa

I am stoked you see some sort of issue, but my network skills are not very good. I definitely had to fiddle with my router at some point - but everything worked before the password reset

I do appear to have WAN enabled.

So is this a router issue?

Yep - located in Alberta.

What Make and Model is that modem/router ?

I’d like to read up on it before telling you to turn off WAN.

Ideally , to keep your butt from hanging out there on the internet , you want NAT only with DHCP

Hi @ChuckPa
I use an Asus RT-AC66U_B1

Also – I think I changed the IP range when I got a new service provider, as that was the range that my service provider’s proprietary router was using when I changed it to bridge mode.

Cheers,

Is anyone running Plex on a NAS?

I also lost the connection to the server that I’m running from my NAS following a password reset. And unable to claim / its not showing up as an unclaimed server on my network.

@ThatCK

I’m sorry it took me a bit to get back to you (dinner).

I have here in the forums, assisting anyone who needs it for 14+ hours a day for the past 2 days and I’m already at 10 hours for today.

How may I help you?

Which DSM version do you have; 6 or 7 ?

DSM 7.1

Plex is installed directly from the package center but not recognised on the local network since I changed my password due to the breach.

I’ve tried the 3rd party claim tool which also doesn’t work

PMS 1.21.0-3744 is Obsolete . Synology won’t remove it or update it.

3rd party tools will fail because it’s 1.21.0-3744 (BETA only).

You need to download from http://plex.tv/downloads “(DSM 7)” version for your machine.

Sorry to correct myself it was originally installed form the package center but since updated manually to the current version 1.28.1.6104-7000

Thank you… much better.

All you need to do:

  1. Uninstall the package, use the default (KEEP) radio button action.

  2. Reinstall that same 1.28.1.6104 SPK again

  3. Choose the “Install using Plex Claim Token” button

  4. Click “Get Plex Claim Token” link.

  5. A browser tab will open.

  6. COPY the token it gives you (it will be in your browser)

  7. Return to the installation tab

  8. PASTE the token in the small box on the installation menu

  9. Click NEXT and DONE.

  10. PMS will now be installed again
    – While installing (the only time we can do this),
    – The installer will communicate with Plex.tv and obtain new server credentials for you
    – Those credentials will be written in your Preferences.xml file for you

  11. The installation will finish and confirm “Claimed by: Your Username”

  12. Now start PMS

  13. Open PMS this one time by its LAN IP ( http://lan.ip.of.syno:32400/web )

This confirms everything is in sync again.

Once you’ve gotten to the dashboard and all is satisfied, you can open PMS anyway you want from that point forward.

I’ve got 3 radio buttons:

  • Unistall only; keep all exisiting files
  • sign out and unclaim this server; keep all exisiting files
  • Erase all of plex

KEEP all existing files.

two of them keep files, do I pick just the unistall only or the sign out and unclaim one?

Please, Use the default action. Keep this simple.

I don’t want uninstall messing with your Preferences file right now.

Reinstalling using the claim token does the work of the ‘Sign Out’ and does a ‘Sign In’ simultaneously.

I keep this step easy and do everything on the install step

I think thats got it to work, thank you.

I don’t see the solution to my issue in this thread, but @ChuckPa answered it in a response.

My issues were 100% caused by my odd IP range on my router. I updated to 10.0.0.X, and everything worked as expected. This was hard for me to diagnose because everything worked fine before the password reset
