Unable to claim my server (Synology NAS DS918+)

Hi,
I followed the instructions step-by-step to change my password.
Password was changed without any issue.
The problem is that the server does not appear under settings/general. Thus no claim button.
The NAS and the Mac are on the same network. I tried the solution the third-party “ClaimIt” tool as advised here But I get a 401 error.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Synology DS918+ ruuning DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 6

Please try to access it via local Ip and port, e.g. http://192.168.0.10:32400/web
This worked for me, I was able to claim the server-.
But: it’s still not showing up when atrying to access vie plex.tv

Thanks. I can access to this. I get in but the server doesn’t appear on the left side. Only movies&shows provided from Plex. My media is empty and proposes to get PMS server.

I have the same issue using docker with the linuxserver/plex container and the claim code is in it too and still not showing up. I tried removing the server from the account settings manually but with no success.

same situation here for the 918+

I just installed the latest version of plex for DSM and finally I was able to claim the server.
1.26 => 1.28

I just tried this option. Still the same issue.

I got it to work, here are the steps I took:

  1. Sign out on the local server IP, even if it is not showing your server
  2. Stop server (and in case of docker, rm -f as well)
  3. Edit Prefernces.xml based on https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/
3a. Remove any item starting with PlexOnline
  4. If you have docker edit your parameters in docker run on compose with a new claim token from https://www.plex.tv/claim/
  5. Start server again
  6. In the logs you should see running /etc/cont-init.d/45-plex-claim and then Server claimed successfully, navigate to http://serverip:32400/web to complete plex setup.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip. Is there a work around the first step? I have no access to my LAN and won’t have any for quite a while.

I have tried all the steps above (including editing the Preferences.xml) logging in directly to the Server.

I got presented with I am not Authorised to access the Server so I tried deleting it from the Authorised devices list and reinstalling the package to see if that worked now I cant see anything related to my server.

Please help, I am running the latest version of PLEX 1.28.1.6104-788f82488

That’s where I started as well, removed all servers in plex.tv, then sign out on the local IP as well, then the steps I mentioned above. Might check the logs if you can access those

Am pretty much stuck. Current state of play:

  • No servers registered against my account in authorised devices on both web or logging directly to my local machine

  • No option to reclaim anything

  • Logged out of web and server. Have modified preferences.xml removed the lines as stated in guidance. Restarted Server and logged in locally and there is no existence of my Server or content.

Any ideas?

Are we supposed to delete only the values behind the = sign (within “”) or also the entries/lines like PlexOnline incl. the values within the “” etc.???

@alain.blaettler

Per the instructions:

  1. Carefully remove the following Name="Value" pairs from Preferences.xml being careful not to damage any others or the punctuation then save the file.
  • PlexOnlineUsername
  • PlexOnlineToken
  • PlexOnlineMail
  • PlexOnlineHome (if it exists)

You remove the Name= and the quoted value (hence the pair)

example:

PlexOnlineUsername="ChuckPa"

All of that is to be removed.

You are removing the Preference’s name and its value.

FYI: DSM 7’s installer has built in support for this should you ever opt to upgrade to DSM 7.

I have followed these instructions regarding the preference file. When I log on again to the local host it is not detecting any Servers and there is no option to reclaim it. All my media libraries are missing.

Is there anything I should be checking? I am running the latest version of PLEX Server on DSM7

I did it step by step but unfortunately it is not working.
After these steps, the difference is that when I access http://serverip:32400/web, the webpage informs that Plex Web would like to connect to my plex account. I confirm clicking on connect and I am back to the problem, no server, no medias, no claim button.

@Rampelbergh Same here, all existence of my Server has vanished from both serverip:32400/web and Plex Web.

I logged out from both, stopped the server, modified preferences file, restarted server, tried logging into the serverip again but still ending up with same issue.

Stop Plex

Manually, using FileStation, Make a ZIP of the Logs folder under Plex Media Server and attach here.

I need step away for a bit and will look through them when I return.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents, I tried all the above on my 918+, but I think what finally got it working was to be sure to put the server address “http://IP.ONLY:32400/web” into an incognito chrome browser, (but any should do), and for some strange reason it worked, I was able to see all my media, claim the server and all seems to be well. I would have sworn I tried it before, but maybe the combo of the IP address, (I might have been using the name instead of IP and did not notice it), and the incognito window finally logged me into the LOCAL plex server on the Synology and that give me the options to login to the account in the upper left, and then claim the server under the Setting/General. SO relieved when I saw all my movies and shows. I think if you do not get to the Local Plex page you will never see the Settings/General page is all I can figure.

Just tried an incognito window and manually typed the ip address. No luck for me :frowning:
