Still Cannot Claim My Server After the Password Reset

Server Version#: 1.41.5.9626-70009626
Player Version#:
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

After the security breech, I attempted to reset my password, but when I logged in I discovered that one of my two servers is no longer tied to my account. In particular, it’s the local one I have at my house in my Synology NAS.

I tried to follow guides online and removed the listing of the server from my Authorized Devices menu, but was not able to reclaim it. I edited the XML next (per some instructions online) to remove certain key line related to username, email, and token. Then I tried restarting, but it did nothing. I did the same thing again, but tried a curling approach through Mac Terminal program, but that did nothing as well. I uninstalled the plex server completely and then reinstalled it, but that also did nothing.

Each time I log in by opening my server plex connection, it doesn’t show up in my account for me to claim it.

Using plexopedia, I followed a guide to do a manual server claim. This seemed to go well, but now when I try to access my server through plex I get the following message: (the error message can’t be pasted into this form for some reason) – It basically said that it’s a 503 error and that the server is currently doing maintenance, so it won’t let me access it

I read that perhaps after I did the manual server claim that maintenance will take some time to sort things out, but the only reason I believe that this still hasn’t worked is that the server still doesn’t appear in my account.

This security breech has been a nightmare for me and I have spent nearly a day trying to troubleshoot this. Please let me know if there are any things I can do to try to get this server reclaimed. Thank you.

Plex Media Server is running on a Synology NAS, correct?

NAS model?
DSM version?

If the NAS is running DSM 7, please follow FAQ 31: Reset / Reclaim PMS on DSM 7 (Not Authorized - Locked Out). If successful, you will see a “Plex successfully claimed by…” message.

Once claimed, try to access the Plex server via the NAS’ IP address. For example, if the IP address is 10.1.2.3, use http://10.1.2.3:32400/web.

If the FAQ does not work, or if the NAS is running DSM 6, please do the following:

  1. Stop Plex Media Server
  2. Using Synology File Station, navigate to the Plex Data Folder.
  3. Right click on the Logs directory and choose Compress to Logs.zip.
  4. Download the zip file and post it to the thread.

@Nooshdog

Thus far, you seem to have taken all the right steps.

However, I believe that the plex.tv servers may be a tad slow to propagate your updated account details and that can lead to very mixed results.

You can log in one minute and things are fine, but the next minute you have no connection etc…

I would advise you to be patient after making the password change and allow the plex.tv servers time to propagate the changes properly.

This may take a few minutes, hours, days to complete, but things should get back to normal eventually.

In the meantime, follow FordGuy’s instructions, as this should put you in the right place once the plex.tv servers have caught up.
