Pause Timeout Issue - Roku

If I pause w/ less than 10’minutes left in any show or movie to tend to an issue, the pause function automatically turns to stop in just a few minutes.

When pause goes to stop, plex then thinks the show was finished and I lose my place. Then I have to fast forward the entire show or movie to find my spot, which defeats the entire purpose of having a pause button in the first place.

I get if this was 1970 and we didn’t have screen savers that kicked in automatically and you didn’t want burn in, but plex was launched w/ screen savers and going from pause to stop doesn’t effect my screen saver anyway, just the background.

I can’t seem to find the feature to disable it. Worse case you think there would be a pause timeout radio button the server administrator could see and I’d set mine at minimum, to one hour. Not 5 minutes.

How do I fix this or is this something PLEX needs to fix on their end?

Thanks to whoever can help. You rock!

Do you have Passout Protection enabled in the app? In Settings>Player Experience

Disabling the stream after a long pause is a server setting. but that is not enabled by default. That s in server settings>Network>Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than. This is to prevent folks streaming from your server from leaving things on pause for hours on end using up server resources

In server library settings you can also set “Video played threshold” to 95% before it is considered complete

Thanks for your responses.

I don’t have pass out protection enabled.

However, I did somehow miss the terminate sessions under network. It was set to zero. I don’t know how I missed it; but that’s why this forum is here I guess. I’m pretty sure that’s my problem.

Many thanks to you and I hope you get some positive energy coming back your way in kind.

Thanks again and have a boss balla weekend

Dang. The network terminate setting didn’t fix it either. As soon as the screensaver comes on, it automatically is going from pause to stop.

Every-time.

I reset the network, the server, the device and confirmed that the timeout setting was set to 180 minutes after reboot and it still is doing it.

Any other ideas to fix the glitch?

Thanks again!

oh i did not realize the screensaver was kicking in. I’ve asked out Roku devs about that before and unfortunately there is nothing they can do right now about it it stopping when the Roku screensaver starts. It is not a simple thing to address I was told.

This never used to be a problem until they broke it.

They should just delete the pause button if they are only going to support stop. Because, who doesn’t use a screensaver? And who wants their movie and show to timeout the moment it comes on?

I’ll tell you. Zero people. Just sayin…

Yeah that is what happens when Roku changes their rules and forces their screensaver which we have no real control over and have to abide by or else not have a Roku app at all.
