Plex closing when screen blanker is activated

Not sure if this blog even works for users. I have use this platform 4 times for problems i have had and i get not response what so ever. Is there anyone out there that can answer this since i know i can’t be the only one experiencing this…

Noticed some time back that if I’m watching
live TV and I leave a Roku player in pause, it stayed that way, with the screen blanker on, all day.
Now I pause a show and if I wait too long and
the screen blanker comes on. When I hit select to go back to the show, I lose what I had saved and the plex app closes when I try to return. I have to watch how long I wait to return so not to lose my shows. Is this your latest fix to eliminate a device from staying pause all day?

Now if i don’t get an answer to this question this time then I will understand that there’s no one here smart enough to answers simply question.

I’ve noticed the same thing. I believe it has to do with the new Roku app since once of the changes is " * Remove screensaver per new Roku guidelines."

When Plex is paused long enough to kick on the screensaver it kicks out of whatever was playing. If that happens to be live TV it closes the channel and you lose any buffer you had, very annoying when watching live sports. I believe this was a bug introduced when they removed the built in Plex screensaver and really needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

I’m also having this problem. If Plex removed the screensaver as per Roku guidelines, why? I don’t think it’s mandatory because I have other apps that use a generic “Roku” screensaver and not the one that I have when no app is running. I use IP Camera Pro (Roku app) as a screen saver so that I can display 4 of my outdoor cameras as a screen saver. I realize from the two previous posts that IP Camera is not the problem. To be clear, when I pause Plex, the IP Camera screensaver comes up so Plex has deferred to the Roku OS configured screen saver. Once that screen saver comes up, if I’ve paused Live TV on Plex or a Plex video, I have to click my way back to where I was before pausing. Pretty lazing software coding on Plex’s part if you ask me.

Ok all. Think I’ve got a temp fix. I have eliminated the Roku screen blanker by setting its timer off. Of course the screen blanker never comes on so if you’re running a plasma then you may not want to do this. I haven’t lost anything of my saved show since I have done this.

I did a Facebook message to Plex and got nowhere. Here’s the last response:
“I do not know the details, but the behavior you see now is a requirement by Roku. As you mentioned, the app did not do this before. We are aware this is an undesired behavior for many users and we are working with Roku to see if there is anything that can be done.”

None of the other apps on my Roku have cooperated with Roku. Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, NBCNews, etc. Netflix doesn’t do any kind of screensaver. It just sits there. Hey Plex, why not copy Netflix???

Thanks for this tip, very annoying to lose buffer on live TV.

Just by accident I hit pause while watching live TV (Roku) and got distracted. I expected the TV show to not be on pause and … well it was. I tried it again and left the screen saver on for about 15 minutes and it did not lose pause or the buffer. I checked and the Plex version on Roku is 7.6-build 1. Does anyone know if that is a back-rev’d version?
