Pentanet Wireless Internet

Not sure if this is the right area, but here goes. Pentanet has a fixed wireless connection available and I want to know whether Plex will stream over it and whether I can stream to friends through it. They said it may need a public ip which they can supply.

Never heard of Pentanet but as long as you have internet access then it will connect up. The performance of your streaming is dependent on your available bandwidth, which may not be as good as a wired connection.

Many fixed wireless carriers use CG-NAT addressing in their network. This puts Plex in a double-NAT situation, so standard port forwarding will not work.

Ask Pentanet if they use CG-NAT. If so, ask if they can provide a public IPv4 address that supports port forwarding.

The address does not need to be static. Dynamic is OK. However, it must support port forwarding.

There are several threads on the forum regarding CG-NAT.

Some mention using VPNs that support port forwarding, the ngrok service, or other methods to port forward through a CG-NAT network.

You can search the forum (or the Internet) with “CG-NAT port forwarding," Pentanet port forwarding,” or similar terms.

Thanks for the advice. I have it all sorted… once I got a public IP address, Plex just pick it up and used it. Didn’t even have to set a static ip. Pentanet is a West Australian company.
