So there is no setting on Amazon fire stick to say you want to enable subtitles ALL the time.
Usually this is under languages.
It is available on my samsung TV and the web-layer so perhaps someone at plex just forgot to enable it on fire stick?
Why do I want this well because some of my family members are deaf and use subtitles for ALL media. not just foreign media.
There’s a setting on my plex server that SHOULD enable me to FORCE subtitles in english on ALL devices however this doesn’t seem to yield any result OR it is reset.
The last 2 options do not have to do with auto selecting subtitles, they are meant for if you have no subtitles and you want/allow subtitles to be searched for, you can set the preference for the type of subtitle searched.
After settings the options as you want, click the save button in the bottom right corner.
From what I remember of Plex ninjas/employees stating, this does not apply to media already scanned in but media scanned in going forward will adhere to this.
The one big thing to mention for this to work correctly though is that the audio and subtitle language must be properly set If you are using MKV as your file type, you can use a tool called MKVToolNix to update the header and set the language for the video, audio and subtitle tracks contained in the file. This can be done via command line using the mkvpropedit program included in MKVToolNix, which would allow bulk updating much quicker). For MP4, I am not sure what tool will allow that, but I know there are tools out there (I am almost strictly MKV at this point with a few stragglers of other containers).
If you are using external subtitles, make sure that you have the correct language code (either 2 digits or 3 digits, i.e., en or eng for English) in the file name. See this support article to understand the naming convention for external subtitles: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200471133-adding-local-subtitles-to-your-media/
It is an account level setting, which means it applies to the account that it was set to. This means it automatically applies to each device you use when logged into that account. This setting, as far as I know/remember, has never been available to set at the device level. It has only be available where you are able to access the account settings (so the web app and the OS specific apps which I believe run a version of the web app).
