I just created a new TV Show library and it automatically selected “Personal Media Shows” as the agent. It matched the show titled “M.A.N.T.I.S.” (from 1994) at “Le Mante” and when I tried to use Fix Match the correct show wasn’t even an option! Even when I corrected the title (which should be done automatically, to select the title originally pulled from the files/folder) and the year, the correct title STILL didn’t appear. So I switched the agent back to TheTVDB and it is matching everything correctly again.
But now Plex is nagging me to “Upgrade” my library to the “Personal Media Shows” agent because, apparently, it thinks it is better. But it is most absolutely not better.
FWIW, PMS also matched the “Kung Fu” series from 1972 with “Kung Fu (2021)” and I’ve no idea how many others I will need to fix … yet. Hopefully there’s a way to have it re-match the entire library using a working agent.
The „Personal Media Shows“ agent is only use did you specifically selected it at some point. It’s similar to an Other Video type library for personal video files organized like a tv-show, using embedded metadata (if supported/available) but not matching the show against any online repository.
The dedicated TVDb / TMDb agents are indeed legacy agents and will ask you to update your library to the current-generation agent → Plex TV Series.
The Plex TV Series should properly match your media against Plex‘s metadata repository.
If there’s different episode orders on TVDb/TMDb, you no longer need to change the agent, using Fix Match — instead you can set your preferred episode ordering for the entire library and override that order in the advanced tab of individual shows.
Sorry for using an incorrect term that I got from the Agents panel in the Plex Settings. Apparently the agent you mention isn’t even referenced on the setting panel, so I selected the only name with ‘Plex’ in it, thinking that was the new one.
Regardless, the mismatches occurred when the library was initially created using the Plex TV Seriesscanner and the Plex Seriesagent. I could’ve lived with the mismatches if I was allowed to correct them, but the fact that I could find no way to get the Fix Match tool to find the correct show (or anything at all) other than the mismatched title was a MAJOR problem for me and rendered the new stuff unusable.
That said, once the fully functional agents had matched everything they could, and allowed me to correct the few they got wrong, I was able to switch back to the newer agent and I’ve only found one show that it apparently “corrected” back to unknown, removing the poster, description and premiere date I had set.
