Personal videos sorted by date copied not date taken!

Hello everyone,

why are personal videos not sorted by date taken? It does not make sense at all to click on videos, sort them by Year (or Release Date, whatever that is) and to see them sorted by date copied. I migrated to a GlusterFS cluster and copied my data, now it’s all pell-mell.

Such things are getting so annoying with Plex.

What’s the file type of your personal videos?
Plex will only read embedded metadata (such as “date taken” – which should translate to the “release date”) from mp4/m4v files. Otherwise, Plex will go with a timestamp Plex can receive from the file system.

We have different files. Most of them are MTS files (so Panasonic’s Advanced Video Coding High Definition (AVCHD)).

So what’s with the problem here? No support?

Apologies… I took your last post for a concluding statement.
How can I help?

Well it looks like you can’t. The camera I had back then seemingly did not write date taken into the file properties. How sad. Nevertheless, thank you for getting back to me.

Painful probably, but couldn’t you change the “copied” or other file properties using something like NirSoft’s BulkFileChanger (or similar) to force the file dates to the dates you want?

Of course, that only sounds like a good idea if you don’t have hundreds of videos to change to all different dates…
