PGS burn triggers no more HW transcoding (4k HDR - Intel N150 - Win 11)

Server Version#: 1.31.5.9522-a96edc606
Player Version#: 5.91.0 (LG OLED G3)

Hi, first of all, I want to say I’m very happy with the overall Plex experience  Keep up the good work!.

I just moved my server over to a Beelink S13 that has the intel N150 CPU using the UHD 730 iGPU (@1000Mhz boost). I’m trying to get PGS subtitles HW transcoding to work, but without success.

If I’m not mistaken the current version PMS supports PGS HW transcoding, is that correct? I saw multiple posts of people doing 2 simultaneous 4k HDR to 1080p 10mbps transcodes with PGS burn in on their N100 CPUs. With the N150 basically being a new bin of the N100 (with slightly higher clock speeds) I would expect the same or slightly better results.

However, the following happens:

  • Transcoding without subs works flawlessly with the iGPU doing the HW transcode and system CPU usage dropping to <20% after filling the buffer.
  • Transcoding with SRT burn-in also works well with the iGPU doing the HW transcode and system CPU usage dropping to ~30% after filling the buffer.
  • Transcoding with PGS burn-in the server reverts back to 100% CPU transcoding and the iGPU is not used.

What could be the issue here? Can provide more details if needed!
Thank you.

Edit, forgot to add:

  • Transcoder quality is on “Prefer higher speeds encoding”
  • HDR Tone Mapping is enabled
  • HEVC video encoding is enabled for HEVC sources only
